I don't like the dash. The Picanto's dash looks the best in this class IMO. Just a shame that my gran can outrun my Picanto!:(

Facelifted Volkswagen e-Up launched

The facelifted Volkswagen e-Up has been launched today, with subtle tweaks refreshing it to match the rest of the Up range.

The new e-Up has a revised front bumper, as well as a blue strip in the front grille to denote it as an electrified VW model.

At the rear, the light clusters have been subtly redesigned and the bumper has been tweaked. Like the model it replaces, the e-Up is available in five-door form only.

Volkswagen claims a range of around 93 miles for the latest e-Up - the same as for the pre-facelifted model. As before, this can fall to 50-75 miles in cold conditions.

The facelifted e-Up also maintains its predecessor's nine-hour full charging time and takes 30min for an 80% charge.

Volkswagen says an optional wall box charger can fully replenish the e-Up's battery pack in six hours. Including the £500 OLEV grant, the wall box charger costs from £390 fully installed.

Owners of the e-Up can also now monitor the car’s charging progress through its Car-Net e-remote app, as well as view driving statistics and control the air-con remotely. A three-year Car-Net e-remote mobile services app subscription is included in the car’s purchase price and costs around £100 a year thereafter.

The price of the e-Up has also risen slightly, partly because the government’s grant for electric vehicles has been reduced from £5000 to £4500. It now costs £20,780. First deliveries are expected to take place in October.

This is the lightly facelifted Volkswagen Cross Up!

The Volkswagen Cross Up! may have arrived in South Africa only earlier this year, but the little five-door model has actually been zipping about the global stage since 2013. And that means it’s ripe for a facelift.

This, then, is the updated Cross Up!, which has just gone on sale in Europe. The changes are subtle, although VW curiously states that it “comes with off-road suspension” in addition to the 15 mm hike in ride-height.

The diminutive cross-hatch also features new 16-inch “Kalamata” alloys, model-specific front and rear bumpers, colour contrasting side-mirrors and black trim along its flanks. Silver anodised roof-rails and high-gloss chrome-plated strips on front and rear are also present and correct.

If you look (really) closely, you may spot the redesigned grille, new front fog-lamps and ever-so-slightly different headlight treatment. Volkswagen says it has furthermore added three new paint colours to the range (gold metallic, blueberry metallic and coral red).

In Europe, the facelifted Cross Up! can be had with the same 55 kW 1,0-litre three-cylinder currently offered in South Africa, or a 1,0-litre turbo-triple worth 66 kW.

Volkswagen SA says the Cross Up! will be launched locally in February 2017.

3-door models are gone.....

Here’s how much the facelifted VW Up! will cost in SA

The facelifted Volkswagen Up! range is due to launch in South Africa later this month, but we’ve stumbled across some early details … including pricing.

The local line-up will comprise four derivatives, all in five-door flavour (the three-door models fall away) and all powered by an unchanged 1,0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine (55 kW/95 N.m) married to a five-speed manual transmission. Look closely and you might be able to spot a few subtle exterior design revisions.

As before, the range kicks off with the Take Up!, now priced at R164 700 (an increase of R4 300 over the pre-facelift equivalent). Next up is the somewhat better-equipped Move Up! for R178 300 (which commands a R10 800 premium over the model it replaces), adding a multi-functional steering wheel and electrically adjustable side-mirrors.

The special edition Club Up! and Colour Up! derivatives also leave the range, replaced by the Up! Beats, which, like the Polo Beats introduced last month, is fitted with a premium sound system. This model comes in at R194 700.

VW SA earlier told us that the facelifted Cross Up! variant would be added to the local line-up in February 2017, and it seems this model will also be priced at R194 700, which represents an increase of R9 200.

Volkswagen’s local arm has finally opted to fit all but the entry-level model with Bluetooth and a USB port, although both will be optionally available on the base Take Up! as well (for R600 and R1 750, respectively). Service and maintenance plans, however, are still optional (R4 576 for a three-year/45 000 km service plan and R7 182 for a maintenance plan of the same length).

Pricing:
Volkswagen Take Up! 5-door 1,0: R164 700
Volkswagen Move Up! 5-door 1,0: R178 300
Volkswagen Up! Beats 5-door 1,0: R194 700
Volkswagen Cross Up! 5-door 1,0: R194 700

So we aren't getting the turbo motor? No need for me to upgrade mine then!

Pity about the 3-door. Makes sense in terms of our market, but that big door made it a doddle to fold my 6'4" frame into an up!

Pricing for the facelifted Volkswagen up! city car has been revealed ahead of its arrival in South Africa!

The Volkswagen Up! has been a sales success in South Africa since its introduction early in 2015 and the model has received some updates to keep it ahead of the curve. The facelifted Up! was shown earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show and the refreshed Up! is due to launch locally this month.

Key features

The facelifted Up! will offer higher levels of customisation with new colours and wheels designs available to buyers. Exterior improvements include newly designed head- and taillight clusters, revised front and rear bumpers, new side mirror housings with integrated indicator lights and cornering fog lamps.

The interior of the Up! benefits from a new infotainment system with MirrorLink integration, while the steering wheel now features mounted controls. New seat and dashboard designs are also on offer. Buyers will be pleased to know that Bluetooth and a USB port will be fitted as standard on all Up! derivatives, except for the base Take up!, where these features will be optional.

The Up! range will consist of 4 derivatives including the Take Up!, Move Up!, Up! Beats and the Cross Up! (due for introduction in February 2017). All up! derivatives will be offered in 5-door guise only.

The Up! Beats replaces the previous Club Up! and Colour Up! derivatives and comes fitted with a 300W premium sound system by BeatsAudio, the same sound system found in the recently introduced Volkswagen Polo Beats.

In terms of engine power, the current 3-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine, which produces 55 kW and 95 Nm of torque, will power all Up! derivatives with, while a 5-speed manual transmission will drive the front wheels. The claimed average fuel consumption is 4.6 L/100 km.
