The Walking Dead Fan Petition To Bring Back Beth Gains Steam

Accusing showrunners of killing a strong female character just to further the storyline of a male character she's close to, a group of over 24,000 fans are petitioning AMC to bring Beth Greene back to The Walking Dead.

The accusation should sound familiar to comic book fans; award-winning writer Gail Simone, whose Secret Six #1 was released last Wednesday, began her career in comics not as a writer, but as a blogger criticizing that very phenomenon. Founding the website Women in Refrigerators -- a reference to the way Green Lantern's girlfriend was killed in a then-recent story -- Simone called attention to the plight of female characters being treated more as props than as characters.

Whether that's a fair assessment of what happened to Beth is up for debate, but one thing is clear: the outcry surrounding the character's death has been pretty loud, and many fans feel she was dismissed, or that her death was needless or anticlimactic.

The petition goes on to acknowledge that it would be difficult to bring someone back on a show like The Walking Dead, but also said that on television, "anything is possible."

The series has already wrapped principal photography on Season Five, of course, so it's unlikely a petition would be able to sway the present-day storyline. Nevertheless, fans of the character and the actress shouldn't count out the possibility of a flashback-style return, which isn't unprecedented on the series.

There's no way to bring her back. Except maybe as a retard or something. They already showed her brain being spattered when she was shot...

TVLINE | When you finally did read the script, what was your reaction?

I don’t really remember. At the time I had to deal with all of the logistics, like figuring out what to do with my place. [Crying] I’ve basically lived on and off in Atlanta for four years.

TVLINE | Were you satisfied with how Beth went out?
I think the writing throughout has been great, but I wasn’t ready for it to be over. I think the Beth character, in particular… more could’ve been done with a teenager growing up [in that world]. I did not see it coming at all, especially this season. It’s weird, because I would’ve been OK with [this happening] in the second season or the third season, when I was like, “Oh, maybe this character is coming to a close. What else is there to do with her?” But now I feel differently… I feel like there was still so much more to [explore.], like, what could have happened with Daryl?

TVLINE | Did Scott offer an explanation?
He didn’t, really. I think the whole point is there is no rhyme or reason [to the deaths on the show]. It’s like real-life. Why does that person [die] as opposed to other people? We really don’t quite know why.

I think a petition to bring back Beth is a pretty stupid idea. It's a zombie show and people die for goodness sake, that's part of the suspense. We can't have our favourites all sticking around no matter what and these kind of unexpected deaths are the shows talking points.

So well done Beth, but let's move on. We're dealing with zombies after all, not fluffy little kittens.

The next group of survivors they encounter contains Beths identical twin sister who was separated from her at birth.

Would need a cameo from Herchelle to drive this plot point.

And who wouldn't want to see Herchelle again.

Tried watching this and oh my god its boring I got to the episode where Sofia is revealed to be a zombie. Compared to the comics this just falls flat :( way to much filler episodes for maybe two good episodes so far.
Also see they kill off Beth in the series while in the comics it's Glenn and she becomes the leader of one of the towns silly move
