The weight loss thread

Ive been struggling with my weight for a while now, although I dont think Im thaaaaaaaaaat much over weight. I had to go see a specialist about my high blood pressure early last year. She has a massive issue with my weight, apparently I have a lot of visceral fat (so Im not pretty on the inside as I keep on telling people, Im fat).

Im 92KG at the moment and doc wants to get me closer to 80KG or even 75KG. The doc prescribed Saxenda (not a happy name if you ask me). Its stupidly expensive and the medical aid wont cover it. So for now Im trying an 18:6 intermitted fast program while also trying to cut out fizzy drinks and eat less stuff that started off as dough. Maybe dropping a few KG will help with my running too, which has been frustrating lately.
My target is also 80Kg and like you, I am also not going to use anything like saxenda. Many reasons. Expensive and I doubt if it works and even if it does, I would prefer weight loss as something that I did (lifestyle changes) so that I can be a bit proud of myself.

I am going to take mine in steps:

1) Starting this week not to eat any process carbs or any "high energy" carbs, so no bread, pasta, sugar, potatoes etc.
2) Get used to eating "low carb" meals, not really aiming for a specific max grams, basically just eating mixed vegetables for my carb source.
3) Reduce calories when used to step 2 above.

Exercise is being/will be done throughout.

Will see how it goes.

It is always nice seeing MyBB forumites create threads like these :D they really help keep the midnight oil burning!

No specific weight targets this year; just try to incorporate more exercise and healthy eating habits.

I don't compete with people I know I cannot beat lol. He is stupid fast

I cannot imagine swopping out any running days for something else. Apart from running I also cross train ie. 2 cycle sessions that adds up to about +- 70-80km per week and do some cardio / strength training on Tuesday's and Saturdays.
In Summer I like to add swimming to the mix and do 16 x 50m lengths.

As far as my diet goes, I eat alot. 5-6 times per day. I consume alot of protein. I love sugary drinks especially coke but I limit myself to 1 x 2l bottle of coke per week and 2 x 2l orange juices per week. Other than that I drink water coffee and tea.

I Exercise atleast 12 times per week. Most days consist of morning and late afternoon exercising. Ie running in the morning and something else in the afternoon.
You're clearly very fit and I'm glad to hear that you do include strength training as well. In terms of your question about gaining weight, I think you would have to make some adjustment to your training if that is what you want to achieve.

I don't hold that endurance cardio and a certain degree of muscle mass are necessarily mutually exclusive but in terms of what you are asking of your body, it is a disadvantage to have excess muscle and your body will adapt itself accordingly. So it's no surprise that it is difficult for you to increase weight as you have described (either in terms of muscle or body fat) and you will have to adjust your training somehow to shift the demands on your body to produce more mass.

If you're happy as you are, that's perfectly OK but if increase weight is a priority then how much cardio you versus resistance is key.

So far I have been maintaining my 10kg loss for last year. Meat prices over December got me off carnivore for a bit and pups injury meant no everyday walks like I did. Need to ramp this up and get active again as I want to lose another 9kg before August. I think I am supposed to be around 76Kg but if I can lose 9kg I will be happy at 80Kg.

I thought I was doing quite well until my bathroom scale behaved like a complete and utter douchebag this morning...

The festive period wasnt so good to me. Went to 75.7kg and currently sitting at 73.4kg. Lots of work to do...

I come here everyday and try to read workout related threads etc to motivate myself. I think we all go through ups and down.

I hear you...

I took a bold step and joined a local social running group. Adopted their weekly plans and stretching myself to the max trying to keep up. I am tired but not sore as the intensity is way way higher than running casually on my own.

Today I reached 111km. Never done this before and feeling awesome about it. The support from the group is amazing and motivates me to push. This morning was a marathon pace session of 50 minutes and I fell into the sub 4:00:00 group. I know the weight loss is coming...

Hang in there Surface

Fsk it:
Starting weight this year(7 Jan) is a gross 138.7
Current weight (18 Jan) is a slightly less gross 136.1

Doing:
Kj control, daily weigh ins, and 15 minutes on the rowing machine every day.

Goal:
I was 81kg in 2016 after losing 40kg in the previous insane weight loss journey. So I want to get back there. Almost certain to be a 2 year journey.

oh - my aim is 80kg (like you were before) but I started from 99 so way easier than you. I think max 2kg weight loss per month is sustainable but everyone is different. So far lost 2.6kg and really not very drastic changes that I can't maintain forever. Have cut down on carbs/fizzy drinks/chips etc and I try to make sure to spend about 400-500 calories per day in some sort of exercise. I think your daily weigh-in idea could be good as I currently weigh every monday morning.

Let us all get to our normal weight in a year or two. Good luck.

Daily weigh in is good because you can compare yourself to a week ago. Which accounts for the random fluctuations in weight that usually happens day to day. It is also a continuous reminder about why I am doing it.

As for rates of weight loss, this table sets it to be realistic.

Whatever your weight loss is, you really cannot expect it to be constant throughout your entire weight loss journey.

Continuous reminder is a good point. I will give it a go. My weighing scale is a bit iffy and needs some slaps/taps to get it working every time (changed button battery last month but still) so maybe I need to get a new one.

Never had good experience with digital weighing scales. Maybe I need to spend 500 upwards and not those R140-180 ones from dischem/clicks
