The Witcher 3 Official thread

So after trying not to play until the weekend, I fired this puppy up for 30 mins or so, just to see what it was like.
My specs are in my signature, but I have a R9280X and an i5 4570. Running in 2560x1440, with most settings on high, AA on SSAO, water, world detail and one other I forget on Ultra, with hairworks on everything that has them, not just Geralt.

I definitely get noticable FPS drops in the in-game cutscenes, but gameplay seems perfect for now. I have only gotten as far as the Tavern section (did the tutorials to familiarise myself again)... I'll post more once I've ventured further out, but hope it stays the same as it is now.

Apparently, there is a 30fps cap on cutscenes.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/36jn8s/psa_how_to_fix_30fps_cut_scenes_and_fov_work/
for a workaround. Haven't tried it myself though.

I caved. I said I was gonna wait....game ordered. Same day delivery so hopefully this afternoon before I go home. At this rate I'm gonna have to eat 2 Minute Noodles for dinner... :p

Well I've just tried this game with everything on high (x2 770), the performance is rubbish. Had to revert back to old drivers since the new ones don't have an sli profile available for W3 yet. Getting around 50 fps, but the game is not smooth at all, choppy and everything is a bit blurry.

First impressions; the game looks fantastic, yes the foliage is less detailed if you walk right up to it and stare at it but the overall atmosphere is fantastic. I had my pitchfork out over the downgrade, but last night I was having way too much fun to scrutinise, and nothing jumped out at me as inherently bad.

Story and voice acting is great, world is immersive, I love the dynamic weather and day/night cycle really well done. I like the trees/bushes blowing in the wind, it could probably just do with a toning down a bit when it isn't windy/stormy.

Damn it, nice deal on classified for a key to Witcher3.

I just don't want to spend hours and hours downloading the damn game. Will just get a hard copy of the weekend.

For some reason, I'm disappointed graphics wise. I feel Skyrim looks much better.

Also, controls seems to be optimised for a controller. Control wise - Horse Riding seems... clumsy.

Combat is great thou.

Running everything on High.

In those charts the HD7970 gets 48.7fps on high at 1080p. That's encouraging. Hopefully my performance is similar. My processor is the i5-3570K, which shouldn't be much worse for gaming purposes.

Something fishy about that chart as the fps they claim on high I get on ultra, my german sucks so maybe I'm missing out on something?

Mods will be out soon :D

But of course, the biggest question is making the game look like its 2013 debut- he confirmed that while it would be possible, it’s also not necessarily recommended.

“I don’t know if you can tweak the environment 100% like that, but I think so. However, remember that we had a reason to change it (and these effects have nothing to do with performance). Sharpening only looks good on screenshots and short videos. If you stare at the game like that for a long time, the eyes really start to hurt.”

I'd possibly tinker with some options then. I loved Skyrim, but if you're comparing vanilla Skyrim to the Witcher 3 and still saying that, I'd say something is wrong.

There was another German site running an i7, 16gb ram setup which said that my 9280 would barely manage high on 1080p.
I agree with your suspicions...

You're crazy man, stock Skyrim does not look this good:

Skyrim vs witcher 2

Can't see how it could be better than Witcher 3 considering Witcher 2 looked better.

Well when you try it start off with Ultra settings, v-sync off, hairworks off, shadows lowest, all blurring off, SSAO, DOF off and see how it performs.

Also look at that nvidia tweak guide I posted earlier.

Jesus, I'm totally in love with this game!!! Definitely the BEST game of all times. Game of the Millennium. Happy witching, everybody! /hugs
