The Witcher 3 Official thread

Hamster, don't tell me you're QQing now too. One .QQ. is quite enough.

Although it is funny the lengths QQ is going to to disguise his QQing. Even misquoting me in sigs. I can practically feel his butthurt seething through the monitor. :p

The irony is quite palpable as you continue to repeat "QQ" like a developmentally challenged person, while all I did was point out that the thread had devolved into comments regarding the control scheme, while you in fact have been the one crying about the controls and the horse combat.

Perhaps your machine is too slow and you need to scale the graphics down, or even the difficulty? Everyone has seems to be enjoying the game. In either case, I'm not really sure why you chose to take that comment upon yourself, either through rage or perhaps you felt picked upon as you appear to be having a sad time with the game while everyone else it is enjoying it immensely.

Feel free to quote this and apply "QQ" again, it is pretty clear now that you are incapable of an actual intelligible response which I can only attribute to a severe case of autism or developmental problems.

I'm off to check out the new patch, we can only hope it has been optimized to the point where it is now playable on your pc. ;)

tl;dr

So much QQing because I said mean things about the controls, which thousands of people across the internet have also mentioned. Apparently discussing technical aspects of the game is not part of a videogame discussion. Let's all shed a tear for QQ.

Lol. Talk about taking the internet too seriously.

Zewp its getting boring now. You're starting to sound like Bryn and his crusade for PC gamers.

PC Patch 1.0.4 is out,

I just gained another 1-2FPS, if they keep this up I'll get 60fps everywhere. Outside of villages I get over 60fps, strolling through a village I drop to like 53fps at times but it's still butter smooth.

My config just for the record,
No even on a midrange card like a GTX 960 you can have awesome performance. You have to look at the nvidia guide http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...-hunt-graphics-performance-and-tweaking-guide and this applies to AMD cards as well. I do not drop below 50FPS and the lowest fps is in villages.

1. OC your GPU as far as you can push it! A GTX 960 you should be able to get close to or over 1.5GHz Core Boost & close to 8GHz Mem clock.
2. Make sure you have the latest GPU drivers installed for you card.
3. Max everything out to start off with and then we start turning a few settings back.

GRAPHICS:
VSync - Off
Maximum Frames Per Second- Unlimited
Resolution - Your Display's Native Resolution
Display Mode - Full Screen
NVIDIA HairWorks - Off (I don't care whether you have a nvidia or amd gpu, this thing is a biatch & will eat away at your fps without adding much to the actual game)
Number of Background Characters -Low or Medium (There will never be more than 75 characters on screen at any one time so pointless upping the setting) http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...r-3-wild-hunt-number-of-background-characters
Shadow Quality - Low (Shadows do not make that big a difference in the game visuals, if you stand still in one spot you will notice the change in settings but when on the move you wont notice a thing. Compare the images http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...-guide#the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-shadow-quality
Terrain Quality - Makes zero difference for now so turn it to low or max it out. http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...guide#the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-terrain-quality
Water Quality - Ultra
Grass Density - Ultra
Texture Quality - Ultra
Foliage Visibility Range - High (You can turn this up to Ultra but you are gonna take a knock of just under 10fps, I don't notice much pop in effect with High setting)
Detail Level - Ultra
Hardware Cursor - On

POSTPROCESSING:
This relies on personal preference a lot! Start off by moving all the sliders to the right but leave Sharpening on Low or Off (High is just too much & looks crap).
Ambient Occlusion on SSAO (I'm gonna get back to this later). Anti-aliasing you can turn on or off depending on whether you are gonna go with my recommendation at the end of my guide.

Now let me expand on when I say the majority of these post processing settings boil down to personal preference.
I hate blur & motion blur, I turn it off in all games.
Chromatic Aberration is a load of kuk & so is Vignetting, just ask any photographer and it really adds nothing to the game.
Depth of Field is another one I don't like, it blurs distant objects as one would experience in real life, I prefer my games without it.

So with postprocessing depending on your personal preferences you can save quite a few FPS, mostly by not enabling HBAO+ ambient occlusion.

The most GPU intensive settings in this game are NVIDIA HairWorks, Foliage Visibility Range, Shadow Quality & HBAO+ Ambient Occlusion.

Now wrt to me specifying SSAO & turning Anti-aliasing off I have what I think is a better option available via a mod.

Go to http://reshade.me/ and scroll down until you find the download link for Reshade + SweetFX 2.0
Next go to https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3696/ and follow the instructions for the manual installation. You basically have to copy 3 files & folder across and then download the config file.

What the above will do for you is inject SMAA anti-aliasing into the game(EDIT: You can disabale SMAA in the config file and still use the ingame AA or not, your choice) & you will also end up with better gfx which more suite the mood of the game. At night & indoors things will be slightly darker. This has the benefit of not needing HBAO+ ambient occlusion as the contact shadows are naturally darker and it adds greatly to the mood/feel of the game. This has no fps impact on the game whereas HBAO+ could knock you around 5-7fps down.

EDIT 2: This game is actually pretty smooth anywhere above 40fps strangely enough but below that it sucks, so if you can get your config to give you more than 40fps you will still have an enjoyable experience ;)

I gained a few frames as well. They improved the texture quality on foliage as well, it's a noticeable improvement.

Once they fix the horseback stuttering mounted combat should be easier on PC. At the moment it's easier for me to get off and just kill everyone.

If you hold in the attack button then the combat goes into slow motion that makes the kills much easier.

"Johnny Johnny ate a cat, come the morn' fur he shat!" :D

I just noticed now that in densely forested areas I'm actually dropping a few fps but things do indeed look a bit better.

EDIT: I'm not rushing this game though, I'd rather spend my time in the first village just messing about while the updates come down. I've completed all the side quests, now exploring places of interest at a snails pace and then I'll go kill the griffin (I killed the griffin before but decided to restart the game :D)

I'm a little over 12 hours into W3 and it's going great. It's a shame that the main story just seems to be fetch quest after fetch quest, but the many side quests are mostly entertaining.

Yeah I'm taking it slow as well, just exploring and riding around in the forests is awesome.

I'm 30 hours in, just hit level 8.

Finally found Anna and finished the family quest. ****ed up ****. I just want to break everything now

I was so confident I did the 'right' thing... that I overwrote my save where I was "bringing the horse to the hillock" :(

Well I'm not sure there is "a right thing" to do:

**SPOILER**

The crones never lie and my impulsive self went full attack on that ugly ass hillock first chance I got.....and now the children are missing (the corners probably ate them). First chance I get they are dead. Already tried once but they didn't show up. Maybe later :(

EDIT: Spoiler tags only work in Tapatalk :(
