The Witcher (Netflix) - 2019/2020

Watched a few episodes.

Didn't expect it, but .............LOVE IT. Series can do just fine without Cavill.

Series is brutal, and they seem to have catered to the gamer in us now. If you played the games and know the lore/characters that show up, you are going to love this. Character development and growth is well done.

Ciri is a BEAST. Sharlto Copley is just terrifically bat **** murderous, and Lawrence Fishburne is great to watch.

Turn off the gay/bi phobia and enjoy!!

If you played the game, you probably won’t recognise any of the characters because they don’t look anything like them.

Haven't read the books, I take it?

Ciri is very much bi in the books.

Season was fine. Actually glad they're not following the book as rigidly as before because the content is new and entertaining.

When they try to follow the printed series everything just feels ... off somehow. Much like watching movies based on a Stephen King novel, they just never quite manage to match what I imagined.

Agree that Copley pulls it off. Superb performance.

Hemsworth, however, is garbage. Not a great casting choice.

Where is this Dra character?
Jaskier never smuggled elves in the books
Francesca's child and baby murdering?

Season 1.

2 onwards they relaxed a little and had some fun with it.

I see many confused by season 1 but the first book was written pretty much like that... time-hopping all over the place then finally knotting it all together... worked well in the book but may have confused viewers.

Season 1 plays around a lot

What they show in season 1 is not the reason why sorceresses are infertile.
The whole organ thing with Yennefer is completely fabricated.
he was also never sold by her father
The Monoliths???
Why is Cahir a main villain?
 
Honestly, with the length between seasons, I probably won't watch this again. Sadly the streaming culture of bringing us seasons so far apart just makes me lose interest.
 

This could have been any fantasy series with a witcher doing a cameo every so often.
 
I saw that Sharlto Copley is in this and willing to try it, because I like him

I have liked it so far. Not as good as books or games but not as bad as people like to make it out as.
 
Kuk neo-pagan Polish story made more kuk by woke Netflix and normie Western fans.

Catered to the gamer? Jirre, what drugs are you smoking? This is so far from the truth.

I've played the games and know the lore/characters, "hate" is much too kind of a word to describe what I feel.

Ciri, a beast? I mean, in the games yes, but in this series? 🤣 More like a the gum you try getting off your boot.
 
I loved it.
Ciri can fight. Yen is the baddass sorceress the games showed us she is. The magicians and how integral they are was well presented. Seeing all those characters warmed my gaming heart.
Regis had me smiling, especially since I called it before he saved them.
Finally saw Witcher use Quen, igni, aard and yrden.


Hope the hate doesn't get another season cancelled. Like HALO.

Some of us can enjoy things for what it is.

Would have been better if the focus was more on Geralt, you know, the main character in The WITCHER.
 
Right. So ran out of things to watch, and decided to just give it a go. And, inevitably, I was disappointed. I knew I would be.

The Bad:

The recasts just didn’t do it for me. Hemsworth just doesn’t have the aura of Cavill. At all. He comes across as an average cosplay at best. Way too jovial and smiley (what is that thing he keeps doing with his mouth?) for Geralt. I simply don’t BELIEVE he’s The Witcher. The Vesemir recast was a necessity, so I’ll let it slide. Netflixication of Regis worked because they actually got a good actor to play him.

The Rats. Oh boy. Literally the most annoying part of this season. I don’t understand what the thought process was when they decided to include UK street lingo and excessive swearing in a fantasy setting. Glad they had a gory end.

Jaskier/Dandelion always looks like he’s going to burst into tears! What have they done to him?!

Milva: what’s the point except for a girl boss who saves them? And why is she American when everyone else has the standard British fantasy setting accent?

The story in general was just all over the place and felt really rushed. The pacing was awful. I didn’t find any of it, well, believable. So many out of character moments.

The Good:

Yennifer. Not because of the character or her story. But because Anya Chalotra is still seriously hot.

Leo Bonhart. My favourite character in the series. And my mind was seriously blown when I realised who played him.

And finally: it’s over. This slop can’t hold a candle to seasons 1-3. They really ****ed themselves by parting ways with Cavill and straying so, so far from the source material (that no-one even read apparently).
