The Witcher (Netflix) - 2019/2020

Doug Cockle (Voice of the Witcher since 2007) also confirmed it will not be based on his Geralt and that Cavill will be creating a new Geralt, completely separate from the one we know from the Games
 
What I am saying is fact.
It has been made clear months ago when it was announced the series will have nothing to do with the Games.

You stating it doesn’t make it fact. So provide a link, an article. Something. Otherwise it’s hearsay as I pointed out above. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I would just prefer to get info from an actual source, not a random internet person.
 
Here we go again, the casting call for Ciri:

According to a confidential National Youth Theatre ad listing, Netflix is looking "for a 16 or 15 year old BAME (black, Asian, minority ethnic) girl who can play down to 13/14." The listing adds that the applicant must be under 18.

Will see if it turns out fake or not.

The showrunner did tweet this months ago so we'll see how true to her word she is, probably also hard when a studio forces your hand but it could turn out to be all fake.

Gerald is probably around 100yrs old, not that witchers age like humans. Mads wont be to old for the role I reckon, makeup and all. Cavill actually looks too young too me.

You have a point but Mads is 52 and would need to do alot of physical stunts imo, to make it believable. I'd have liked to have seen him in the role a few years back. Although someone like Gerald Butler could possibly be decent, but anyway Cavill it is.
 
I hate this recasting ethnicisites BS.

They should remake Shaft with Jason Bateman in the lead.

Then they should do Django: Rechained starring Ashton Kutcher

It is important to the character. It’s a specific character, from a specific place, who is described in a certain way, has a certain look and a certain heritage. There’s zero good reason to change it.

It will most likely be a origin story, so a young Geralt is to be expected.

My guess is it will start with an older Geralt hunting a monster, then cut back to when he was a boy training under Vesimir.
It will do this at the start of every episode with the present time / past cut backs.

Just my guess at the structure, but an older Geralt will not make sense, since they are not banking on everyone watching having intimate knowledge of the characters.
New people to the world will be clueless.

Think of characters from one of your favorite book or videogame series.
you've followed these characters for the last ten years of your life.
you feel as if you know them. Like you grew up with them.
Then you learn these characters will appear on screen for the first time.

And then, these characters you've known for a decade to be white, suddenly turns black.
That's why I care.

Because it does not fit in with the environment or the story.

Idris Elba would fine in james bond but being Heimdall does not fit into the whole norse god/mythology thing. Would you cast a white guy as malcom x or genghis khan?

I'm against messing with the source material.

Why is it important, though? Why is Ciri's ethnicity specifically as important to the substance of the character or story as being black is to Shaft, who is explicitly a blaxploitation character, for example?

Sure, it doesn't change anything for me, at all. Why would it? Like ponder mentioned with James Bond - why on earth does it matter if he's black? It changes nothing about the substance of the character or story.

The Heimdall thing actually proves my point.

Basically nothing about Marvel's version of Norse mythology is accurate. They're aliens with advanced tech, not gods. Here's a list of stuff that's totally different to the source material.

So why is them changing all this stuff not an issue, but Heimdall being black is? Makes no sense. Not to mention how all the Marvel movies have changed the characters and stories from the comics. Come to think of it, basically all adaptations of games/books make big changes to source material characters, storylines, settings, etc. Even Beyond.Celsus mentions in a previous comment how they've already confirmed this will be a "completely new Geralt, separate from the one in the games." So why is that change not an issue?

With Malcolm X, the character's race is central to the character and the story. That's different, imo. In the same vein a black Abraham Lincoln wouldn't make sense, either, for example.

In the current timeframe it makes no difference, if it was set 50yrs ago it would be different.

I hope you don't mind what Danny Rand was white or that Major Motoko Kusanagi was portrayed by Scarlett Johanssen. Both of those got a few SJW feathers ruffled.

Ok lets say it's a series about african mythology, I would not agree with casting whites, asians etc in the role of black mythological characters. It simply does not fit.
