The Witcher (Netflix) - 2019/2020

Not sure if you’re just playing devils advocate, or if you’re being a troll.

Black Harry Potter. White Shaft. Chinese Maverick.

These are casting decisions that would have fans - rightfully - in an uproar. Because it’s a) pointless and unnecessary and b) a sham. If you want a character of a certain ethnicity, create that character.

Why alter a preexisting one?

In the case of The Witcher, have you read the books? Played the games? The setting is quite specific and these characters are quite unique in who they are. There is no good reason to alter them.

So instead of the “why can’t they?”, why not change your angle and look at “why should/would they?”

The Witcher world is created and adapted from Polish mythology.
Show me a black or Asian pole....

Next robin hood movie will star a black trans woman and its merry men will be made up of all ethnicities/genders on the planet...

And it will likely fail and be a box office bomb. Much like Oprah's SJW farce of a movie.
 
That's the funny thing about all this nonsense.
Publicly everyone is in favor of changing established characters ethnicity to show they support 'change' and the PC movement.
But in secret they hate it and the projects inevitably fail, because nobody turns up to see it.
 
Game and books had great storylines/telling, if the series is similar it will definitely be one of the top series.
 
Okay, since this discussion has degraded into trolling, no point in going further, I guess. :)

Anyway, one good thing about Netflix is that they aren't afraid to throw money and creative leeway to showrunners. They give them (at least) a full season run, which means they can plot out what they want to do over the whole season. Cable shows usually get hemmed in and told it depends on the ratings for the next couple of episodes.

Little worried that the showrunner's other credits aren't particularly noteworthy.
 
While the defenders is a bit campy and I don't like it a all, she also did Daredevil. The same Daredevil that brought us Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. The best Punisher to date.

If she can absolve Daredevil after Ben Affleck butchered it, I am not too worried, but it won't be an easy task.
 
I liked the first season of Daredevil, but the 2nd season became a slog and felt like every other Marvel series. Yet to watch Punisher, although I struggle to prioritise any Marvel show over the large amount of promising stuff out there.
