The Xiaomi EV Thread

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is launching between January and March

Xiaomi stunned the world with the SU7, its first ever EV (and first ever car), which continues to exceed sales expectations and force the company to up its sales targets. And then, Xiaomi stunned the world again, last month, with the 1,548 hp SU7 Ultra hypercar prototype/concept.

A few days after the unveiling of the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi dropped another bomb: the SU7 Ultra is coming, as a road legal production model, in the first half of next year. Today, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has narrowed down the launch timeline further. It turns out that the production model of the SU7 Ultra is actually going to be launching in the first quarter of 2025, so between January and March.

The SU7 Ultra will arrive in customers' hands with a 'beginner's mode', which will require new owners to go through a step-by-step exam of sorts in order to unlock the car's full performance, Lei said. This is done as a safety precaution in order to basically protect eager but inexperienced customers from themselves, we assume.

The car is no joke. It has 1,548 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.96 seconds, and it has a top speed above 350 km/h.

Xiaomi delivers another 10,000 vehicles in September

Xiaomi announced that it delivered 10,000 SU7 vehicles in September, making this the fourth consecutive month to reach the goal. The company didn't reveal the exact figure, but only confirmed it exceeded the 10,000 threshold.

The original 2024 goal for Xiaomi was to deliver 100,000 SU7 models and if the carmaker can keep up with the production, it will likely achieve that by late October or November. The company recently updated the goal to 120,000 deliveries and it said it expects expects to deliver more than 20,000 vehicles in October.

It has already put a lot of effort to boost production and recent production optimizations seem to have had an effect.

Xiaomi's expansion of its EV factory will be completed next year

Xiaomi is selling SU7 units at a steady pace - last we heard it delivered 10,000 of them in September alone. The company has started an expansion of its EV factory, and a new report today says this will be finished in mid-2025.

More specifically, the second phase of the Xiaomi Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Base is going to be completed on June 15 next year. According to Chinese media sources, workers are working overtime to complete the project within this timeframe.

Ford’s global CEO admits he’s been driving a rival’s Chinese EV and doesn’t want to give it up

It’s not unusual for executives and engineers at car companies to drive products from other brands in order to keep tabs on what their rivals are doing, but seldom do they admit to actually loving any of these products.

However, Ford's global CEO Jim Farley, a self-confessed car guy who is known for his brutal honesty, had some really good things to say about the first car to be launched by Chinese tech giant and smartphone producer Xiaomi.

Speaking as a guest on Robert Llewellyn’s ‘Fully Charged Podcast’ this week, Farley admitted that he did not want to stop driving the Xiaomi EV that Ford had specially imported to the US from China six months prior.

“Everyone’s talking about the (non-existent) Apple iCar, but this Xiaomi car which now exists, and it’s fantastic, is sold out for six months.

“I don’t like talking about the competition so much, but I drive the Xiaomi.. We flew one from Shanghai to Chicago and I’ve been driving it for six months now and I don’t want to give it up.”

Podcast host Llewellyn described his statement as an “extraordinary thing to say”.

Farley described Xiaomi as an industry juggernaut and a consumer brand that was much stronger than any car company.

But what has the Ford CEO been enjoying so much about his adopted Chinese car?

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra production version will be presented on October 29

Xiaomi's SU7 has been a resounding success, and back in July the company unveiled the SU7 Ultra concept, which then turned out to be destined for production - all 1,548 hp of it.

We've known for a while that the Ultra would arrive next year, and now we have an official unveiling date set for its production version: October 29.

In case the date seems familiar, it's because Xiaomi is announcing its latest flagship smartphones, the 15 and 15 Pro on the same day - at the same event, even.

According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the production version of the SU7 Ultra will have the same chassis structure, triple motors, and battery pack as the prototype. So we're definitely curious to see what, if anything, will be different - aside from the lack of carbon fiber cladding, which Lei Jun already confirmed.

Xiaomi teaser claims SU7 Ultra is a dream car for speed demons

The EV market is about to get a wake-up call from Xiaomi. The Chinese tech giant, known for its smartphones and electronics, is set to unveil its latest creation: the SU7 Ultra. This high-performance EV promises to redefine what it means to drive electric with a thrilling experience both on the streets and the racetrack. These are bold promises, but this is Xiaomi we are talking about. If the "civilian" SU7 is anything to go by, the Ultra will change the status quo.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has declared the SU7 Ultra his "Dreamcar," and it's easy to see why. This is a machine designed for those who crave speed and performance. While full details are still under wraps, Xiaomi has been steadily teasing the SU7 Ultra's impressive specs.

The production version will boast a carbon fiber rear wing, hinting at the car's track-ready capabilities. We expect a triple-motor setup, likely the same Xiaomi "V8s" motors found in the prototype, which deliver a staggering 1,548 horsepower. This means a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 1.97 seconds, putting the SU7 Ultra in the same league as some of the fastest hypercars out there.

Xiaomi EV promises the Ultra will deliver a complete driving experience, combining performance with cutting-edge technology and luxurious comfort. While the exact features remain a secret, we should expect the SU7 Ultra to be loaded with advanced driver-assistance systems, a premium interior, and the latest in-car entertainment technology.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra shatters Nurburgring record

The Nurburgring Nordschleife is a legendary racetrack in Germany that has witnessed countless battles of automotive prowess. The latest contender just stepped up to the Green Hell and, in the process, rewrote the rules of speed and challenged the dominance of traditional performance cars. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype, an electric sedan from the Chinese tech giant, has claimed the title of the fastest four-door car around the 'Ring, clocking an astonishing lap time of 6:46.874.

This feat is even more remarkable, considering it was the prototype's first attempt at the challenging circuit. Xiaomi EV, the company's electric vehicle division, proudly proclaimed this achievement as a "miracle and a new beginning," hinting at the performance potential of their upcoming production model.

The SU7 Ultra prototype is based on the existing Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan, which launched earlier this year with a starting price of RMB 215,900 (approximately €27,270). However, the Ultra takes performance to a whole new level. It is powered by Xiaomi's three electric V8s motors, delivering a staggering 1,548 horsepower combined. This allows the SU7 Ultra to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and reach a top speed exceeding 350 km/h.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is 1527bhp super-saloon with Prodrive engineering

Chinese EV is claimed to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 1.98sec and 0-124mph in 5.86sec, top out at 207mph

Chinese car maker Xiaomi has revealed the SU7 Ultra, a Porsche Taycan Turbo GT rival with with Prodrive engineering and 1527bhp on tap.

Utilising a tri-motor powertrain, the four-wheel-drive super-EV can hit 62mph in 1.98sec and go all the way to 207mph.

It has already become the fastest production four-door saloon to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Initially unveiled in prototype form in March, the SU7 Ultra will go on sale before the end of 2024 priced at ¥814,900 in China – the equivalent of £87,943.

Chinese deliveries are planned to begin during the first half of next year, and exports haven't been ruled out.

The SU7 Ultra is the first recipient of Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V8S electric motor – so named because it has been conceived to deliver power on a level similar to that of a modern-day petrol V8. It's claimed to rev to 27,200rpm.

Each of the rear-mounted V8S motors delivers 570bhp, while the front-mounted V6S motor develops 387bhp. This gives the SU7 Ultra a combined 1527bhp, representing an 863bhp increase over the existing four-wheel-drive SU7.

Production Xiaomi SU7 Ultra makes official debut with 1,526 hp triple-motor setup

Xiaomi has finally unveiled the production version of its highly anticipated SU7 Ultra. This high-performance electric sedan is set to really challenge established players.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is a technological showcase designed to demonstrate the company's capabilities in the automotive sector. It stands directly against the likes of Zeekr 001 FR, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Lucid Air Sapphire.

The SU7 Ultra comes with three electric motors – two Xiaomi V8s and one Xiaomi V6 – generating a combined output of 1,526 horsepower. This enables a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 1.98 seconds, putting it firmly in hypercar territory. The SU7 Ultra can reach a top speed of 350 km/h and completes a quarter-mile sprint in 9.23 seconds. These are truly impressive stats.

Power comes from a 93.7 kWh Qilin 2.0 battery developed by CATL. This advanced battery features a dual-surface cooling system, a cell-to-body (CTB) structure for enhanced safety and rigidity, and an impressive 5.2C fast-charging capability. You can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.

The SU7 Ultra builds upon the design of the standard SU7 sedan but adds several sporty touches. A large rear spoiler, wider body, and aggressive bumpers give it a distinctive and more aggressive look. These aerodynamic enhancements contribute to a significant 265 kg of extra downforce, keeping the car glued to the road at high speeds. The SU7 Ultra rides on 21-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero 5 tires.

WATCH: Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype smashes Nurburgring four-door record

Chinese automakers should not be taken lightly, and neither should the claims made by company bosses. “Our goal is to become one of the top five car manufacturers in the world… and we need courage to compete head to head in the world’s top car companies,” said Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun.

Part of that challenge was to set a new Nurburgring lap record for four-door cars (as we reported here) with any form of propulsion. And that is exactly what the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype has done.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype was driven to a lap time of 6 min 46,874 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

As a result it now holds the record for the fastest four-door car around a lap of the famous German racectrack. In January this year, a pre-production prototype of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT achieved a lap time of 7 min 07,55 sec. This makes the SU7 Ultra Prototype considerably quicker.
