Everyone saying the rand is volatile, you do realise those movements are less than 1%? In rand terms it seems a lot but if you turn it around the difference between R16.67 and R14.29 is just one USD cent.

Closer to 15 cents but yeah
 
Zuptas refusal to stand down or be impeached has left our exchange rate at R15.15 from a low of R14.82 today.

Surely other reasons caused todays ZAR weakness? - lets be realistic, we all knew Zuma was not going to be impeached. It was more about sending a message and having opposition parties unite on this.

Then rather never read his version of alternative solutions re replacing 220VAC with 12VDC on existing home wiring.

Back to topic. Wonder if the Zuptas took measures to safeguard their riches against the rand dropping or is that maybe the 6Billion now in Dubai??

R16.67 : $1 -> R1 : $0.059
R14.29 : $1 -> R1 : $0.069

Okay, so apparently you're trying to say that R1 buys you simply one less cent. Nevertheless, that represents a 16% difference in the strength of the currency.

Similarly:

R1000.00 : $1 -> R1 : $0.0001
R2000.00 : $1 -> R1 : $0.00005

Hmm, look at that, According to Swa logic the strength of the Rand in this scenario changed immesureably.

Is the maths right, Swa?

Yeah our currency is pretty f***ed from here.

I foresee it dropping even further tomorrow, and this just before my Thai trip! MORE GOOD NEWS IN THIS F***ED UP COUNTRY!

There really isn't anything to smile about these days is there. :(

When we started going to Thailand 100 Bht cost R16, now it costs R42. :(
 
With the surge in oil prices at the moment, more petrol increases next month, food prices are sure to rocket. I'd say at least 50 point hike next month
