R17.07

It might break R17 today (or crash back to R17.80 - stupid damn meme currency).
Yup it can do a lot in a day normal currencies fluctuate 1% the Rand up to 2% and that's a big swing.

What are the fundamental factors?

I think its all driven by speculation. Speculators think that covid19 panic in SA might be clearing up but they are in for a surprise when the ANC show the middle finger they are holding behind their backs.

Lets see how much longer they will keep the SA economy in lock down because if we go by the Rand improvement it would suggest we will get out of lockdown by end of June which is a pipe dream if I ever seen one.

Agree - everyone is expecting a RATIONAL next step, but upto now, SA has been anything other than rational.

Nope.. it’s good compared to others and right now you have lesser places to put your money, SA’s risk priced return looks good vs value.. but right now.

Latin America is going through hell because they didn’t lockdown early. US economy numbers look fake amid a resurgent wave starting and national protests. Yah USA number one.. not, looks more like a shock drop is coming as things unfold which interestingly buffet seems to suspect too.

Things aren’t as straightforward here either though, mining outbreaks, WC numbers climbing, GP numbers too.. I suspect we may see the tale of two cities/metros play out(yes I know provinces).

I dunno.. lots of risk everywhere & SA vs reward seems okwith lesser shocks. That’s what I think is happening.

Where's the bottom, chaps? R16.50 to the Dollar? Will it get sub R16?
