LOL. Still people going with the Rand depreciating narrative.

This. Even if Government does everything right this year; there's less than zero chance we see R10/$

the rand is not so much dependent on what the SA government does than on what the FED is doing

the US dollar index is dropping hard- and in my estimation this is as a direct consequence of the money printing thats going there

Looking even worse for ZAR today with the Dem win.

Sometimes I like to look at my salary in Rands, so I can say to myself “Yay I got a raise” when the Rand devalues relatively (I send some money to SA each year, so it’s not completely theoretical), but in this case, I’m sure that whatever gains I get in Rands, are going to be taken by the Dems in taxes.

If you're making $400K a year, you can spare a bit.

Democrats won easy of passing laws including healthcare & tax changes. Combo that with huge deficit, lot of cleanup of Trump era, trade wars, etc means it will be SA’s chance to not stuff up.

SA side a lot hinges on this year vs corruption accused officials, changing the way government works etc.. all it takes is the right kind of noise and we back to mid 2000s version of a boring democracy till Ramaphosa goes or gets kicked.

Still need massive reform in telecoms vs costs to kick ICT sector out of first gear(frustrating as hell that SA is still held back). But this time round AU trade deal means SA has huge risk of simply not mattering permanently if telecoms doesn’t get massively affordable. Scary when you see how quickly things move in Africa.

I feel for you being in the similar income bracket myself. You only earn 400k dollars? That is not really rich. How much dems are going to tax you now?

I’m quite far north of that ;). It remains to be seen which of their proposals will see the light of day. Some are pretty crazy, so I hope they won’t go through (social security, CG at OI rates). I do expect the upper federal bracket to go back to 39.6% though.

If you vote for trump for 2024, he will give you all rebates hopefully and then you can buy bread etc. again.. Good luck.

And don't get me wrong. Most of us here are quite rich actually. That is why we have lots of time to spend on these forums.
