There is some serious WP tile interface envy amongst Android users...?

Lol wow you clearly are not educated its not only Nokia's smartass. :) Im so lekker cool bruuu coz i use droidz. 1!1!1one

Not how I read it at all. Point being, some folk would appreciate having the functionality of widgets without having to fill the entire screen with squares.

As an aside, you can barely accuse those preferring 'droids as wanting to be 'cool'. Android has become the default smartphone choice; it hardly appeals to nonconformist hipster types. You'd need Windows Phone's lack of market share for that. ;)

Nah that hipster market is already controlled by IPhone.

If you need to hack a registry to get something to work its broken by design.

Your opinion. I love it.

Was the hipster market, from what my kids tell me, the iPhone is now something that Old people use.

Tree huggers and and polar necks.

No its not broken by design it just doesnt meet YOUR design standards. But yes i dont like it either but at the end of the day MS dont care if i do or dont its their decision not mine. So bitching about it wont solve anything.

On both iOS and Android there is lots of functionality that is only possible after rooting/jailbreaking. Plus on Android many, many people load non-standard ROMS on the phone just to make it smooth.

Now, by your logic, Android and iOS are both broken by design.
Millions of people would disagree.

And that is why I prefer LibreOffice(Open Source) - Its made by the people for the people, not some corporation that you have to conform to.

On IOS I can agree, On Android not, Android by design is open to change. See Open Source.

If you weld a bonnet shut and people need to pry it open to get the car to work then the design is broken.
If on the other hand you leave the bonnet open plus give them free tools to make the car work as they see fit and they do so, its working as designed.

HUGE difference.

Yeah you see a upper case menu bar doesnt destroy my experience of using office. It really does not effect me at all. At the end of the day office 2013 is fast, smooth.

Lol i also dont care if its made by the people FOR the people. You sound pretty sour and living in an era where MS is the evil corporation. That time has passed its time to put down the pitch fork.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Only when there actions follow their claims, and so far it doesn't.

They give jobs to over 25,000+ can you boast better stats?

It seems like any company that makes money is automatically evil. I guess the people that go on about how evil Microsoft is also don't use telkom because they have a monopoly over telecommunications. And they probably don't eat McDonalds not because they don't like the food but because they make so much money.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but the fact that companies make money and need that money to run automatically means that they are concerned with how good their software is. Money creates accountability.

My "Evil" claim is not on what they do, all companies are allowed to make money. Its when they do their best to stop others from doing it when I have a problem with them. Same goes for Apple and Samsung.

It doesn't mean I will not use their products, it just means I must look carefully at what they say when they do - "read between the lines" so to speak.

Its the tired bull**** argument about open source, even thou microsoft have open sourced their entire .net api stack and so many other tools around it, and the fact they contribute towards open source projects, and the fact they supply source control as well. Yeah very evil. So god forbid they sell some products to pay salaries i think they should rather just give the developers a pat on the back.

Alpha, how about you forfeit your salary this month for a hand shake instead?

What has microsoft stopped you from doing? I'll admit they where pretty hectic in the past, but that was the past they have changed rather drastically the last few years.

Okay now you are talking out your arse? What products do we need to "read between the line". Tin foil hat much.

See this shows exactly what I mean. for example the contribution to Linux kernel. They went all over saying that look we are supporting Open Source what they normaly neglet to tell people is that:
a They where forced to do so else stand in breach of GPL.
b If they did not do so they would have lost access to Linux Hyper-V support for Windows systems.

Open Source is not simply a matter of work for no money, it uses a diffrent model to get money. Pay for service not a product, loads of people do it like that. Its also not the only market model.

You can use Closed source sure, just do not bad mouth and lie about other products. <--- That is my problem not the Open/Closed Source model

See: http://www.osnews.com/story/21882/Microsoft_s_Linux_Kernel_Code_Drop_Result_of_GPL_Violation
Sometimes, some things are just too good to be true. Earlier this week, Microsoft made a relatively stunning announcement that it would contribute some 20000 lines of code to the Linux kernel, licensed under the GPL. Microsoft isn't particularly fond of either Linux or the GPL, so this was pretty big news. As it turns out, the code drop was brought on by... A GPL violation.

This story begins when Stephen Hemminger, principal engineer with open-source network vendor Vyatta and Linux contributor, finds out that a network driver in Microsoft's Hyper-V uses open source components licensed under the GPL. These components were statically linked to closed-source binaries, which the GPL does not allow.

Consequently, Hemminger contacted Linux Driver Project head Greg Kroah-Hartman, who works for Novell. Commendably, Hemminger wanted the case to be worked out without fireworks and massive media attention. "Since Novell has a (too) close association with Microsoft, my expectation was that Greg could prod the right people to get the issue resolved," he writes on his blog.

When the code drop was announced Monday, nor Microsoft, nor Kroah-Hartman spoke of the violation. To confirm the story, About-Microsoft blogger Mary-Jo Foley contacted Kroah-Hartman, and he confirmed that Hemminger is indeed correct: the code drop seems to have been brought on by a GPL violation.

A "break from the ordinary" and a "significant milestone"? None of that - just a silently handled case, with an overdose of marketing spin, to prevent a major embarrassment for Microsoft.

You can go Google for more info if you want.

Microsoft where not FORCED to open Rx Extensions, .NET and a whole lot of other projects.

Im not bad mouthing products, i do however think libreoffice is a total load of **** and i would rather drink donkey piss for a year than use it.

Nope, but they did not release a full working product either, just some code libs, that is next to useless on its own, from what I have seen.

I am sure if I dig deeper I would find some hidden agenda here as well but its not worth the effort as I am not working with said code.

I didn't know you where working for Microsoft? Good to know.

Oh wow, I did not know Android and iOS did not have Office? I wonder what this is then?

PS: You can also access Microsoft Office 365 via Android if that was your argument.

Edit: your other Office products are also covered, by none Other than Microsoft themselves.

Pardon me. I meant 'the real' Office i.e. Microsoft Office. I thought you would get that.

I was advised to use OpenOffice at one time when I had just bought a new PC. Biggest waste of my time ever. It works fine, but when you start creating documents for business and educational purposes you think of what most people are using and that is Microsoft Office. The stats don't lie.

Those links that you posted are very far away from what most people are acustomed to and use on a day-to-day basis.

Further, most people (in the world) do not have the privilege of online access 24/7. So, even if or when Microsoft Office comes to Android and iOS it would still be with a barrier. Unlike on WP8 and Win8 RT.

Here is a related story that speaks of your LibreOffice too:

OpenOffice dumped as Freiburg plots return to Microsoft
