Things are looking up for SA!

-1 : Skinner is still posting.

I am sure way more competent ppl will replace those that left. Considering the standard that the new president has created. You only need STD 4 to be president. That is the top job. All the other jobs can go to ppl not that educated...I really hope I am wrong - but don't rejoice too much about the guys that left untill you know who will be replacing them. I know it is diffiuclt to comprehend that you can get any worse, but we might see just how low the standards can go.

Indeed, we are not nearly out of the woods yet. The replacements could easily be very much worse than what we currently have.

As for educational level, I think Poison Ivy is proof of the fact that you need only std 4 to be minister, and pretty much the same methinks, to be president.

Huh? Let me get his right ... shuffling incompetent people is positive news?

After ruining SAPS the minister will now ruin Defence.

ToManto goes to the Presidency where she can interfere in every minister's job.

Health goes to someone who once was/may still be a breast-beating ideological socialist of the highest order. She might well competently manage SA's private healthcare system into state ownership. Far too early to say.

The other new/unknowns have no track record, so it's hard to say whether they'll be better or worse than those whose departure is being celebrated.

And Zuma is corrupt. Without a doubt - that much has already been establilshed by the courts, in the trial of his criminally corrupt partner in corruption. He must still face his own trial, but he's no doubt positioning himself to do exactly what MacBeki is accused of doing, ie executive/political interference in the prosecution process. Why, even most Constitutional Court judges have already said he's tried to interfere in the judicial process. This is not reassuring.

Coffee, anyone?

How pleasant after a slight absence to come back to this forum and see Skinner, of all people, posting something positive about South Africa on this forum... but then of course we still have the usual suspects quoted below who are all too eager to sit on the sidelines and say "just you wait, the worst is to come" and then move on the the next doom and gloom story when the first one does not materialise... pity we will never get the chance to say I told you so!

It's all bubble, the calm before the storm. The worst is yet to come. If you think Robert Mugabe is bad, wait until Zuma gets his chance.

Over 150+ people, known to me alone, not counting the thousands out there, can't be wrong, can they?

Anyone who sings a song about killing other people, is serious cause for concern.

Good for you mate, whatever blows yer kilt up hey
I'd like to hear what song you will have on your cellphone when this place has gone the Zimbabwe route.

Turiko all I can do is laugh at your comments. In typical South African fashion it is all based on heresy with very little actual knowledge of the facts. I'm sure it would not take me time to also find 150+ people who say that Zuma is going to be the downfall of this country.... and I can also tell you that to speed up my search I'd be asking all my white acquaintances first!

I wish guys like you would put a time scale on your predictions as that would at least give us a chance to ridicule you when you are proven wrong. Unfortunately you all make these sweeping statements that can never be questioned as you will merely tell us to wait as the disaster is coming soon....

Well, some postivity has come of the last few days. Refreshing and feel good.

Couldn't agree more with LancelotSA.

Pessimism seems to dominate many people's outlook into the future. I remember in '94 when our neighbors were packing their bags and preparing for a full scale onslaught... "doomsday is coming"... The end of the world is also coming...

It's good to see some positive thoughts for a change.

I really hope that people like you leave this country...!!! You only see the negative and never the positive.

The positive doesn't overshadow the negative, not even a little bit. The negative is almost everywhere you look.

Fortunately, people with a negative outlook are by far outnumbered by those who are looking on the bright side.

BTW, Zuma will be president in 2009. He previously indicated that he would only be happy to serve one term. Motlante will be back in office in 2014. So this should be very good for continuity. The ANC NEC is running the country. That should allay fears of a dictorship developing. If you don't tow the party line you'll be "recalled" simple as that.
I think the NEC (Zuma included) have done well in so far as identifying the country's sore points i.e. health, safety and security. Those are amongst the most basic of human needs. At least the NEC is in touch with the general public's perceptions, unlike the one man show that Mbeki ran.

I'm most pleased by the departure of the Pahad brothers from gvt.

Does anyone have any background info on Nathi Mthethwa - the new safety and security minister?
