Things I did not know before I became a parent !!

What is the biggest thing you learnt when you became a parent?

I did not realise that it is so all-consuming to take care of another (rather helpless) human being.

And, on a lighter note, I did not know that breastfeeding exclusively every 3 hours would make you so hungry! Good lord, I eat like a lion and I'm still hungry

I never knew it was possible to love another person so unconditionally . . . and, thanks to the late arrival of the OB/GYN, that there are some sights that just cannot ever be un-seen.

And after nearly seven years . . . a body can in fact get by on 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

This is so so true.

Mine is 10 months old today (boy) and points #3 (when he was younger) and #8(at the moment) of this really is true.

How I wish I could have a little longer to sleep

How to change a diaper. How this is not nearly as gross as hollywood would portray.
How to burp a baby, how to calm a baby simply by talking.
How tiny they are yet how quickly a wriggling baby can get quite heavy.
How to put together prams, cots, toys.
How to baby proof a house (and how easy this actually is).
How to handle a sick wife and baby when I am also sick as a dog.
Baby panado is awesome stuff for babies.
Giving a feverish baby a cool bath at 3am is normal.
diarrhoea is not fun.
Sleep is a luxury for at least 9 months.


How to love someone unconditionally.
No matter how heavy, how sick, how naughty she is still my heart.
How to walk around with your heart outside of your body.
How to always make a plan.

She knows my step, halfway down the corridor to her age group at creche I can already hear her yelling DADDY DADDY IS HERE!

~ 1+1≠2 (especially at young age). If one more person tells me "ah, it's so nice that you had the 2 so close to one another" I will be tempted to open a can of whip ass on them.
~ Your money, is no longer yours. Time for yourself, goes for a ball too.

Having kids will turn a non-emotional person, emotional. And even if I find the financial means to have more than 2, I doubt that emotionally I'll be able to handle it.

But no matter what, I cannot imagine my life without them. Unconditional love is a feeling that makes all other feelings feel small.

It's so special, my two both run outside and jump on my lap when I open the garage door, fun driving in with two kids trying to steer!

Having kids will turn a non-emotional person, emotional.

Only after having my first child, did I become emotional while watching sad movies/tv - even funerals hit home more.
