The Pi Hole project

Pretty easy to set up, seems to work as well as an ad-blocker in the browser while offloading the resource usage. Plus cool graphs and stats

Will def be running this long term 24/7

https://pi-hole.net/

Think I'll also run it as a FOSS seedbox too since it'll be connected to fibre 24/7 anyway

wow - raspian images are in high demand. 12 hours of seeding one & at 1.5 share ratio.
Must say I'm strangely delighted by this & surprised by the oddly high demand. Feel like I'm doing my little bit to help. At 6x ratio after 24hrs. (300mb image, uploaded 2gb)

This is more on the advanced side for me.... Do you need a Raspberry for it to work?

Nope. Looks like you can throw the software onto any any ubuntu etc box. Run a single command & click through the installer. Then point your laptop/iphone DNS address at the box.

You can automate the last part by replacing the routers DHCP with the pi hole DHCP server but haven't gotten there yet.

Misplacing and/or losing my mouse. To add insult to injury, I think my earbuds (Cooler Master, gaming) went through the wash and got ironed. These two items make my working day so much easier. I am immensely crestfallen and lost without them; not to mention the hurt it will cause my pocket to replace them. Ai tog. It is what it is, I suppose :crying:

To update this one, I have located my mouse. Woot!

I put a small reward out there for the wannabe to hand it in. The bait worked. The saving in difference between new mouse and voucher gifted was absolutely worth it :)

Now where are those blithering earbuds

Moving these posts into this thread is overdue.

I got my mouse back. Yes, I had to bait people to hand it over. But it is still a saving over having to replace it.

The earbuds turned up just as we were packing to leave for the weekend. Such beautiful timing :)

Doing a day's work a few hundred metres away from the Kruger NP. Only [-]two[/-] three things would be better than this, namely:

  1. sitting in the park on a deck overlooking a waterhole or river
  2. playing a round of golf anywhere (goat tracks included :p)
  3. doing no work but instead meandering through said park

Bought some new Fountek CD3 ribbon tweeters to replace some dome tweeters in PSB towers. Amazing clarity and smoothness. Cost was $100 each from Parts Express. Delivery via UPS was done in 5 days

Is that a CD changer replacement so you can use the native headunit and still play off USB and get Bluetooth?
Yes. The player accepts USB, SD, Aux and Bluetooth - seems to be a standard unit. The cable is specific to the head unit, I have a RD4 Blaupunkt head unit and Clarion 6 disc changer. You just unplug thr changer connection and plug in the replacement unit. Mine is housed in the cubby hole.

Please just RTFM. Mine initially did not work because I did not name the folders CD01 to CD06.

Still a good upgrade and I might get one for the Astra.

Right now getting 50mbps on the beach is very pleasing. The B315 I got from ManicMiner is getting above 20mbps indoors. I love Dwarskersbos internet

The Eachine E58 drone I ordered from Wish arrived today. Paid R25.50 handling fee which brings it to a total of R674 all inclusive. Quite impressed for the price - it's no Mavic, but it came with two batteries and the flight time seems decent enough.

I love cheap stuff :D
