Things to do when your cap runs out

Is there any way you can set the site to revert to the home page when we click on the local list graphic at the top left? Or put a link to "home" somewhere at the top? Thanks

The 'Upcoming Links' is actually the Home button. I will rename it so that people know what to click.

Questions about checking links/Expiry of Links/Copyright?

Does the site checks if links are active? How will it remove dead links?

Is there an auotmatic expiry of links (like the one above for the FTP site - FTP links are usually deleted seven days later)?

Links like the one I just submitted are copyright, but I am sure CNN would not mind if we use it to give to people who otherwise cannot see it... as long as they expire after about seven days. How will we control that?

I will be posting a guideline soon on how to make sure Copyrights are maintained on international content. Basically you just need to make sure you post the 'source' after the article you have submitted. Yes, there is a Expiry setting. Next time you submit something to Peek! then see at the bottom of the screen there is a Advanced Options feature which enables you to set how long the link will be active. Just click 'Publishing' and fill in the details.

So in other words the expiry of links is controlled by users specifying to the system. In general I think publishing of Peek! articles might be good for about 7 days. But it is up to you. I will explain it better when the guidelines are posted. Just play around with it for now. The more Peek! articles we have on there the better. So go crazy.

In summary:

-After each Peek! Article make sure you link to the original website it comes from e.g. CNN.com

- The expiry of links depends on when you specify they should expire.

ok, set the link. Will do a quick tutorial tonight and then upload it and link it.. [sorry taking so long but doing other stuff too even tho i am on a perpetual vac ;)]

You sure? It's spelt grammar, not grammer ;)
Well spotted regardless :)
You see, I was in the 'zone' during exams, they just finished, so my mind went offline :D
and nice, the site keeps getting better and better Nauseous

Edit: YES!!!!! Thank you so much Kry, After 18 months I can finally talk to my contacts incessantly ;), and I was going to send you my email but it's obviously not necessary now

Anyway, Naus, why don't you put the 'welcome to locallist.co.za' as your home page. That seems like more of the home pages I've seen...
And Would you mind Kry if I circled your manual around? ;-)

Just wondering, MTV works on local cap but to stream any of their radio stations, it try's to connect to another site. Just wondering if anyones gotten around this? No way to stream direct from MTV.com?

Thanks

That's great to hear.

MTV.com is unfortunately like most international sites not fully functional on purely local cap. So I can't really suggest any way of streaming media from them at this point. Metacafe is probably the best for streaming music and videos at this point in terms of international sites, although it is not fully functional as well.

I want to congratulate Garyvdh on becoming part of the Local List team.:D

He has been responsible for much of the success of this thread and submitted a lot of the links we now have available to us. As we rapidly expand in the next few weeks his input with the site will be essential and with current trends in user activity his administrative position will help a lot with the work load.

Direct any queries about locallist.co.za to either him or me in this thread.

Thank You.

We have only just begun.:D Keep watching the site for some cool new features.

We have decided that it would be better for the website if users had more direct access to links on the front page. We have a welcoming message posted on the site and you can access it through the graphic on the front page.

We will be submitting the manual onto our website shortly for your convenience.

Yeah, I just thought that welcome message on the front page would be good as well...
And I'm waiting for it with baited breath ;)
