Think Netflix will kill DStv? Think again

And what a brilliant job they do. I've been around the planet a bit, and in my experience Supersport is the best by a long chalk. Not because they happen to cover sports I follow, but in the quality and depth of their coverage

I don't get these comparisons...

For what it's worth, it killed DSTV for ME.

And I'm sure it has for many others. It's 2 completely different mediums and with quality broadband still missing in about 90% of the country I don't see it changing any time soon.

This anti competitive monopoly Naspers owns is the sole reason why DSTV will not go away. EVER

SuperSport: The Ace up DStv’s sleeve

For all the complaining South Africans do about DStv, such as the way SuperSport’s channels are distributed among the different packages, few realise just how good they’ve got it.

For example, if you wanted to watch the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio fight in 2015, viewers in the US were charged $100 to see it on their TVs.

Sky charged £19.95/€24.95 to watch the fight through its Sky Sports Box Office platform.

DStv Premium subscribers were able to watch the fight on SuperSport at no additional cost.

Imagine the outrage if soccer was premium package only and rugby was available on the less expensive ones.

Netflix may not be a DSTV killer, well maybe not for some. But we've been living DSTV-free for more than 2 years now. What a bliss!
Netflix and Showmax both have their limits, for now, but there's plenty to watch at this stage and we can't what we want to, when we want to, and where we want to - on the teli, laptop or tablet. Hopefully, in time, netflix and showmax will have more content.

5 years time and you will see a sports only bouquet. That will be the only way DSTV will stay relevant.
5 years time they'll be offering custom channel packages.

Or you could have watched it FREE from a sports betting site.

/facepalm
Some major spindoctoring in that article. Makes no mention of if I want to watch just F1 I have to take the complete premium package. Every service has both its pros and cons, but Dstv for most has mostly cons.

I have converted 6 family / friends from DStv to netflix/kodi etc on Android media TV in the last 2 months alone

You go man!

Also slowly trying to introduce friends and family to Netflix.

Imagine the outrage if soccer was premium package only and rugby was available on the less expensive ones.

Most European football isn't available unless you have Premium.

SS3 covers very little of whats on offer.

Don't watch local football so can't comment on that.

You can't get broadband or you won't get broadband?

Dont have. Adsl is no-go, our exchange is crowded. LTE will probably cost twice the dstv subs considering all the content I'll be streaming on netflix. So how will this balance out compared to my R699 dstv sub?
