Howzit guys,

So, to get fit and not have to pay a gym membership stupid amount every month, even if you don't visit a club I have decided maybe running once or twice a week would be a better way.

At the moment, I am not over weight, but I am unfit when it comes to doing exercises etc. I could run up just one flight of stairs or two and that would be the end of me for a bit. Sad, I know.

On top of that, I am hoping running would boost energy levels and over all health.

I have downloaded an app to my iPhone too, which will track distance, calories burnt, GPS map of where I ran, best times, etc. To keep me motivated.

What I want to know - am I just wasting my time with this or will I see improvements?

Also, I am wanting to start eating healthy and I think this will go hand in hand with running?

Just looking for suggestions and advise?

Thanks all!

I used to run and it got quite addictive, I could not wait for my afternoon runs.

If you run regularly, you also lose a lot of weight.

Did it help with keeping you motivated during the day or energy levels etc?
Or was it just something to loose weight?

Thanks for the reply.

Don't you mean lose weight? Or do you really mean loose weight?

I suppose both words could apply :whistling:

It made me feel a million times better, physically and psychologically. Remember all those endorphins that are released when you exercise.

Weight loss was just a happy by-product.

For me I've lost 15kg in 9 months and energy levels are 1 billion times better throughout the day. Do it!

(Just start slow and for short periods like 15 mins and keep it fun. You should be able to have a conversation while running in the first month at least. If you can't you're going too fast!

Well, that's what I am hoping to get out of it. I think i will start with a short run tonight.

You say you used to do it - why did you stop?

Fantastic advise, thank you.

I am going to start tonight and just run around the block or so. You say 15 mins is fine to start off with?

My biggest reason for this is I have become so lazy and unmotivated - I really want to get out of it and become more active and reach other goals that are not being completed due to no energy, lack of motivated, etc.

Try myfitnesspal application for tracking your food, and depending on what fitness app you have, it can automatically record your exercise and share the details with mfp app.

I use Endomondo and it helps to keep things interesting.

At the moment, I am using (or, rather, going to use) RunTracker. However, I will give a few apps a different try.

Thanks for the myFitnesspal suggestion, will give that a go too.

Do you find that stopping the running has put you back to where you were before you started?

A little bit. I'm looking to get an exercise bike now because I haven't been able to attend gym since Baby Blu doesn't like being at Club V and parents aren't allowed for more than 10 minutes.

I spoke to the SO about this just now and all I got was "This is just a phase for you, it wont last" and "Running won't do anything for you, besides just make you more tired after work"

Ten points for support anyone? LOL
