valid point, but we've been waiting too long dude. i think once we get the 1st one then the rest will following, so its vital rafa acts quickly in getting the players he want and not waist time.

The big issue here is that in the current world people demand instant satisfaction.
If you look at Ferguson, he took ages to get manure to where he wanted them, and if you compare Raffa and Fergie, Raffa by far has the best record over his first 4 years. Rather than throw out 4 years of work and start from scratch, lets hope the owners (whoever they may be) stick with the master plan.
The reason we slipped so far was due to the series of good players, but poor managers we had after Kenny.

Dossena deal is ‘on the way’ Written by Matt Ladson on May 24th, 2008
Italian left back Andrea Dossena is set to become Rafa Benitez’s second signing of the summer, with Udinese coach Pasquale Marino confirming talks are progressing well between the two clubs.
Dossena, 26, is an attacking left back who has been impressive for Udinese last season, winning his first cap for Italy in November. He hasn’t been included in their squad for Euro 2008 though.
Marino told Italian radio “I think that a deal with Liverpool for Dossena is on the way. Everything is going smoothly. The requirements are in place and the player has given his consent because he wants to test himself at an important club after the season he has had.”
“Our director general was in England partly because of that just two days ago.”
Supporters in the forums who have seen Dossena play have described by saying the following “Dossena will run for 90 mins. He´s a good defender with great crosses.”
Most encouraginly, one forum member writes:
Hi, I’m from Italy and I know very well Dossena. He’s one of the best left back in the Italian Championship with Vargas (Catania), Chivu (Inter) and Chiellini (who played last season as central defender).
In the Udinese 3-4-3 he plays at midfield, as winger, but he can play as left back in a 4-men defense as well.
If you need some stats: 2 goals and 3 assists on last season.
He played his first match in the National Team on October 2007 with a good assist for the goal of Cristiano Lucarelli, but he won’t go to the European Championship. The italian coach will bring Grosso (Lyon), Zambrotta (Barca), Panucci (Roma), Chiellini (Juventus) and maybe Oddo (Milan). He’s the better full back out of this list, and at the moment I think it’s even better than Oddo or Panucci (Right backs).
I think overall he would be a good deal for Liverpool, even if you shouldn’t think he’s the kind of player that can rise the quality of Liverpool’s defense from good to excellent.
Incredibly, one Youtube clip of Dossena shows him assisting a goal with a clever chip with his right foot, when was the last time we had a left back who used their right foot? Certainly not Riise or Aurelio that’s for sure!
With Dossena and right back Philipp Degen now tied up, Liverpool’s defence is looking strong, with a luxury of four quality centre backs also at Benitez’s disposal in the shape of Carragher, Agger, Skrtel and Hyypia. Arbeloa and Aurelio are expected to compete for the right and left back spots, while Riise and Finnan are both likely to leave.

yeah definately need to upgrade our left back position. Aurelio is a decent LB but he's always injured and Risse is well Riise

cue Manure fans harping on how they are the 'champions' and all ranking systems count for nothing (till, if by some act of god they find themselves ontop)
Its based on overall performance, man-u last won champs league 9 years ago b4 this season and a few years ago got knocked out of the group stages, so overall performance is pretty low for them.

again, if it makes you feel better to throw insults than good for you.
I admit Liverpool are still the best team in England concerning achievements/records, but currently they are no threat to any other team in Europe.

Well overall performance in champs league has been far better and man-u may be like last time, another 9 years before another cup in europe.
my point was to say Liverpool fans should not brag about rankings when they achieved nothing the past 18 years ( for their standards). The only match they played like a no.1 ranked team was the CL final they won. They didnt even deserve to win that CL as far as im concerned. anyways, my other point was for liverpool supporters to worry about the club signing true talent instead of singing "we are no.1 team' blah blah...
Its always possible for MU not to win CL for another 9 years, but that can happen with any team -----> and for Liverpool not to win the EPL for 18 years is quite pathetic. oh but they are no.1 team so im not allowed to criticize.
WEll they are no.1 so the fact they can go on about it is not a issue.
They have outperformed man-u year in/out in europe and thats the big stage so hence they are no1.
well, to me its very funny they can only brag about ancient history and rankings that are determined by ancient history. The past 2 decades, MU sets the benchmark.
Again, Liverpool achieved their glory in 70's and 80's. Those years CL was not as competitive as the past 2 decades.

The rankings are based on recent performances and they get updated after every champions league tournament.
2 Finals and a semi final in 4 seasons is why we are ranked number 1.
2 finals and one(or two) semi in 10 seasons is why United are NOT ranked number 1.
