Menlyn refused to sell to me. Call telkom direct call centre (012 361 4444) Option 1. Tell whoever answers the phone that the branch refuses to sell you the device cash. Hand the phone to the consultant to which he/she will disappear into the back and "talk" to the manager. You should then be able to purchase it. I purchased mine cash from menlyn yesterday after doing this.
The call centre confirmed that they are not allowed to refuse the sale to you. Telkom themselves said you can purchase cash so don't let the store try bully you away

A little OT but think you guys might know best.
So if I want to use Telkom's LIT service without the LIT Box, can I just get a FreeMe 5GB sim, pop it in my current LTE router and Bob's your uncle?
Will YouTube/DSTV Now/Showmax then be free on let's say a laptop that is connected to that router?

Only Streaming that's done on the device itself is free. And also only 360p quality. Other devices will use the data.

Not sure what quality you can expect, how fast the host is, do you need to bind your io etc etc. Yeah much easier.
Well after getting the run around from Telkom I ordered the MI Box and received it today . Really happy with it , great overall experience and a better experience than some of the Android Boxes iv seen using normal android and not Android TV .
Got mine locally from TVme, great service and it even came with the DSTV Now App all installed . Ordered on Tuesday and received today complete with a 1 year warranty.

Wag nou Piesang... Nou verstaan ek nie. Maybe I should open a separate thread but I don't even know under which sub-section I should create it.
So what you are saying in the quote means that the sim must be in the device on which the streaming is done. So for example I've been streaming radio on my Note8 via TuneIn on the FreeMe 2GB and I can see I have 2.95 Recurring LIT Music GB left for September.
Now let's say I get the FreeMe 5 GB for Video streaming. I understand it will work perfectly well on my phone, but let's now say I want to use it on an Android TV device, be it the Telkom LIT device or a Minix Neo for example.... wouldn't you have to connect the Android TV to a router anyway?
So long story short... How will Telkom know that it is an Android TV connected to the router streaming Youtube and not say a laptop connected to the router streaming Youtube. Sorry for my ignorance, really want to know.

Probably the same way they will know when you stream 720p or 360p media.

OK, that really didn't help much. I'll try and do some more research and see if I can find something out. If I do I will report back in case someone else wants to know as well.
I'm going to take a guess.
Telkom has probably already blacklisted those services that will be zero rated on its network.
The Lit service is available on their Home unlimited dsl/fibre packages, so they will be able to pick up when you using a zero rated service and reduce the resolution. Same thing with their FreeMe packages. Obviously you will have to enable the lit service, if you don't then you will use your data and you will be able to select your own resolution

Sumen... Thank you very much. Just read that it's available on the Home uncapped/unlimited package... Which (in my eyes) makes the service a little silly on that package.
You might as well just choose an uncapped account from an ISP of your choice and use those streaming services like Netflix and the like at full res anyway. Nonetheless, I think I missed the fact that the LIT service is more aimed at the mobile device user and not really to be used in conjunction with their Android LIT Box.
