So bought brother phone with micro sim, he is on MTN. Sim is Telkom Mobile. How do we port so that he uses his MTN number/network with the sim?

Oh wait, I got confused. Want to maintain MTN number but move to Telkom Mobile (because sim we got is Telkom Mobile). Guess there's no other option.

Ok here's the process:

- Have MTN number on prepaid
- Go to a TM store, and say you want to port your prepaid MTN number to your TM sim
- They will send an SMS to your MTN number with a pin which you give to them
- After they have requested it, it should take effect within 48 hours

The above process is how it is supposed to work. I sincerely hope it does work like that for you otherwise you might have to make some missions with PM's to the TM rep. But try that first.

Its something you should have mentioned to the TM staff when you bought it.
They have probably already issued you a TM number.
If its a contract then you are mostly stuck, if its prepaid then use up the airtime and get a new sim and tell them you want to port.

I don't know about contract, but I ported to a prepaid sim that was already activated.

Hmm, I wondered. But don't people port with numbers already? Bought the phone @ Edgars.

Hmm, let's see. Will do this.

Had a number ported to cell c, porting < 6 hrs, sim swap +/- 1-2 hrs after. Quick compared to 4 yrs ago when porting took me 2-3 weeks or like 2yrs ago when sim swapping took a few days.

I bought a Blackberry Z10. That was my 1st mistake. Mtn could not provide a bis option but cell c did.
So, I ported to cell c. Second mistake.
After several weeks of dropped signals and calls, I wanted to port back to mtn.
Now I am told that I have to be on cell c for 2 damn months before I can port back to mtn.

Both cell c and mtn neglected to inform me of this. Now I have wasted money and time just to be told to wait out the 2 months.

Lovely service guys. So disappointed.
