If I lived in CapeTown, I would be more concerned with the effects of a Tsunami.

Interestigly, the SA casualty associated with 2004 Tsunami is 2 people. A sea level rise of about 2-3 meters was reported for KZN and Eastern Cape shores resulting in 2 people drawning.

I believe there are now wave sensors in Indian Ocean for an Tsunami Early Warning System. Great Tsunami travel times to SA would be in region of 6-8hrs.

If you ever take a look at the small print in Life Insurance products sold by Old Mutual (maybe the other Insurers too) they exclude radiation and nuclear explosion as part of the cover.
I got a quote from Old Mutual recently and queried this exclusion and they were happy to omit it, but just be aware that it is there before you sign up.
