Time to Start Project Gathering Storm?

Hi LG

I support your initiatives, especially since it calls for action rather than arguments or discussions that lead to nothing. I will also gladly contribute to such an ad. I am relocating on Thursday and simply don’t have time for other matters, but will hopefully have more time in April.

Regards,

RPM

i only noticed now but MAD has added awesome links on some of his articles on HELLKOM which prompt users to log onto MYADSL and discuss the article.

Another idea LGM and RPM... I work for a web company and a nice tool is an email viral campaign.

Simple mechanics. Supply a prize! An mp3 player will do... maybe a computer?
For me to enter the campaign I need to refer 5 friends to MYADSL forums. It will only count for each friend that registers for this. Now each friend who registers might be compelled to do the same thing. The person who refers the most people wins the prize...maybe have secondary and tertiory prizes... (A night with slimothy is NOT a prize)

The nice thing is fliers might not hit the right target market. Emails might have a higher penetration(it may be cheaper... if your ISP is sponsoring you). You needn't worry about it being labelled as spam because it has been reffered.

Also add 'email to a friend' functionality on your articles and maybe 'invite a friend' with regards to these forums. Register for a monthly newsletter would be good too...

The two main marketing drives are aqusition and retention

If ya need help with design or marketing ideas it would be my pleasure... pm me for my details.

Hi Vowthorn

Thanks a bunch for the constructive post and ideas.

I will gladly sponsor an MP3 player if you think this will be an effective marketing method. My concern is just that it might be seen as spam, and we all know that is not the best route to follow. Maybe some feedback from the users about this…

There is already a ‘send’ facility regarding the articles, but a monthly newsletter is an option.

Regards,

RPM

dude if you give me an ipod i will go door to door and get you all the hits you need

My opinion...

What I have done is mention MyBroadband.co.za in the signature of my usa.net email account (webmail GUI), along with some others (Hellkom.co.za is there as well), I haven't added a signature to my GMail account yet...wotalot o'email accounts I got...

I have no idea how effective that is (or isn't) but it's there nonetheless, I have to spend some time messing about with ThunderTweety to create a vCard with all that in as well.

I think we should not rely on just one method of promoting MyADSL/MyBroadband, we should use ALL the really low cost/free methods & then a few of the costlier methods as well.

Added: I think we could hurt our forum if we went down a route perceived to be spamming...;)

really on the internet theres 2 ways to get hits, passive marketting (google adwords etc) they yield an OK amount and active, like spamming.

now we all hate spam etc, but you gotta remember with internet on the net, theres the 10% rule, meaining 10% of people will click on anything, if you just want numbers, then you have to take the active route, but you'll get all types from south africans to jamaicans, rich, poor, stupid, smart. with the passive approach you'll get a more targetted visitor but less of em. Any real life campaign will yield way less than an internet campaign, even airtime during prime time TV will yield thousands where as an internet campaign could yield tens and even hundreds of thousands.

Of course then there are gimmicks, which can work best of all, the hellkom contraversy is an excellent example of this. the name got telkom pissed of and therfor people spoke about it and people not even that interested in broadband developments know the hellkom website and where to find it... so maybe myadsl could take a leaf out of thier book.. maybe register the domain telkomarec*nts.co.za and offer free webmail from it, of course you may have to be sued for the campaign to work.

Mini did it with the launch of mini in south africa... I understand where you get the idea it might be construded as spam... however it is how you word the email. IE

Hi, RPM

Your friend VOWTHORN has sent you this email from My Broadband .co.za for you to join the forums. If you join YOU could win an mp3 player. If you do not wish to participate please ignore this email.

Okay I am not a copywriter but I have access to one :D

At the end of the MYAdsl is merely the tool. I wouldnt for exmaple refer my mother here... but maybe 5 other friends who I have mentioned MyAdsl too but they never get off their lazy git asses and get here...

A simple cheap aquisition drive. But I hear your concerns... I have some samples of these from MINI, BMW and other reputable companies. Perhaps when you see em it will make more sense.
