Quick question for the guys on Platinum. When you purchase fuel do you use your CC or cheque card? Are the eBucks earn points the same when purchasing fuel with your CC or cheque? I keep getting these tiny interest amounts on my CC statement. Just wondering where they come from because I don't draw money using my CC, now do I do any "cash" related things.

Any ideas?

Tiny like in under R10 or under R50 or R100 ?

The only thing that are charged on your CC when you use it and are charge are (EFT's and when the amount isn't settled in full when it is due). It cant be your monthly CC fee maybe ?

And by the sounds airtime and prepaid elec by if I read StrontiumDog's reply

It's the service charges when you buy electricity or airtime using your credit card it's around R2 per transaction with credit card but with cheque card it's R1.50 per transaction.

There is a rule that requires that you spend between 10% and 90% on your limit on your CC. Lets say my limit is R5000. I spend R4000, and transfer R4000 to my credit card and continue spending ... What do you guys think ... is that more than 90% usage ?

No it's not I do it all the time but always got points for that. But make sure that u don't go over 90% before your transfer reflects in the credit card account.

Tiny as in R0.59 :wtf:

And I made sure to not EFT from the CC account. And I definitely settled the full amount before the due date. In any case, I'll monitor next month again. See what happens.

Thanks guys.

Thanks CitizenSA ... So if my limit is R5000, and I want to buy new tires and hey are R20 000, then I can just eft R20 000 over (make sure it reflects as available), and then use my CC accordingly ... thanks for giving me an answer

Yes you can do that once you have positive balance in your credit card account it's not counted towards your limits so it will not affect your limits

You got me very curious now :) . If you want, scan in or download as csv and post your statement details here (minus any private info)?

Maybe we can spot whats causing it! :D

Can someone explain the overdraft rule to me for Personal Wealth?

if I take an overdraft of 5000, how long do I have to use 1000 rand of it (the minimum 20%) to qualify for the rewards points? Some say its 3 days, others say its over the whole month.

Confusing agreed. I opted for getting as many points as possible to deal with the (unexpected/not understood) dips. 24,000 vs min 18,000 for RL5.

I was told you had to use it for 48hrs on a conference call with PC and eBucks. I transfer 21% out on a Monday and return it on Friday of the same week to be safe and it has worked fine for me.

What is the total cost of doing this? There is the overdraft usage fee of R57 and then whatever interest they charge. Is that it?

Yup, but there's a rebate on both. My od fee was R37 and interest R8.14, totally worth it as I wound not have got to level 5 this month. 24k eb vs 12k (roughly)

Jackpot, found this - it seems the most recent in terms of the rules

https://www.fnb.co.za/downloads/private-wealth/FNB-PW_Rewards_Infographic.pdf
https://www.fnb.co.za/downloads/private-clients/FNB_Private_Clients_T_and_C.pdf

The Private Clients one state "your Overdraft utilisation must be between 20% and 100% of your Overdraft Facility for at least 24 hours of a business day."

So that confirms that others have heard from their bankers and ebucks consultants.

If you bank balance is relatively steady, you could automate this with a scheduled transfer:
- x amount out on the 1st of the month;
- x amount back in on the 2nd of the month.

Yeah, my secondary credit card is just used to pay for my ISP and sits at zero the whole month. I'll transfer the cheque amount into that card, and then just move it out of it a few days later.

That way I don't add any extra interest to my main credit card as they would see this as a money withdrawal if the card is already in the negative.

Your secondary credit card is linked to another account? Or if it's linked to same account then it will be drawing from the same limit and hence will attract charges

Old Graphite accounts had the separate limit per card function, I think PW too?
