Sacrilege... I'd rather pay with ZAR at Takealot and go do grocery shopping at Makro or Checkers with gift cards!

Double sacrilege, you say it cost you nothing because eBucks were used? I cannot say the same if I spent 5 months worth of eBucks (R9,130)!

Was R6,500. I earn about eB11k a month.

The 40% discount only works if they sell what you want.

Anyway I'll have more eBuck next week, and the month after and the month after ...

Dammit, that makes so much sense. I've emailed them to cancel the order so I can reorder with a credit card and earn eBucks.

Damn those impulse purchases.

Will get Checkers vouchers and save that way. Of course you do lose out earning eBucks then but the saving makes up for it.

Ok, hope the cancelling works out.

And to add, I'd then spread the use of the checkers vouchers over a few months, to get some use out of your level five 15% eBucks back, maybe to the point where you estimate you get capped at the 20% limit of overall spend.

Thats gonna be alot of potential Checkers eBucks lost.
Maybe check if someone in your trusted circle wants a Makro item for around the same value and buy it for them (at 40% discount ) and get them to EFT the full amount to you.

Ah yes, good thinking. I can completely skip Woolies then. I was planning on moving more of my Woolies spend to Checkers but then they changed the rules (20% max).

See StrontiumDog's post above. So I will still spend at Checkers up to the 20% limit and then use vouchers at Checkers for what I would have bought at Woolies. Must say the Checkers here in Hermanus is pretty good. Maybe not 100% Woolies grade but close enough.

I only have a hold credit card and noticed the rewards are getting worse after the new rules set. Is it worth it being an fnb gold account holder. I spend roughly about R25 grand a month on my cc alone.

You know on gold the cap is at R10k? After R10k spend on the CC your will not really earn more.

With that spend, you will earn more on Platinum if you can stay on level 5.

I wonder if they allow you to have two separate gold cards...

thx Cpt.SpAce.Cowboy, that must have changed then in one of the last 2 iterations, it was R10k when I was on gold back in the day. Was the main reason back then for upgrading to Platinum.

They would but it achieves nothing because on the back end it would be the same gold credit account.

I meant two separate gold credit accounts, not two cards on the same account. My personal rewards level is much higher than my business account, so I was thinking about applying for a second personal credit card and using that for business.

What is the cap on Platinum? When does Private become sensible.

For me it's more about the Emirates travel discount - 40% off means it will cost me less than 5k for a return trip to Dubai and 6k to New York. That means I can go twice a year now for around the same price as a normal ticket cost me.

Just as a point of reference. You only get the discount on the actual flight, not on the tax they charge. Secondly if you book in a clever way via Expedia your flights are free when booking into the hotels they have agreements with. I have gone twice to NYC where my flights were free for my wife and I when we booked into one of their partner hotels. The hotel we stayed in was R1500 per night and was on Broadway. So it's not like they charged us more for the hotel to make up for the free flights. Expedia also has a reward system where you can earn points. I am currently on silver so I get free nights at certain hotels. Just thought I would share a good alternative.
