Tips to Boost your eBucks

Is there now a discount on platinum for smart device subscriptions?

This what I find on the first page but not on any of the other pages.

Yeah also curious about that. I have emailed FNB to ask them to clarify.

These new rules are awful. I'm currently on Platinum level 5 and it seems without racking up a ton of debt it will be impossible to reach level 5 with these new rules. Ill be hovering around the level 2 area. I honestly don't need or want an overdraft, credit card or loans of any type, the fees are just not worth it to get ebucks.

Remember FNB is not going to give you anything for free. They need to make money from you in order for it to be worth them giving you eBucks.

They can make money in the following ways:
1. Encouraging you to not use the branches for your banking needs - this allows them to save on staff costs.
2. Encouraging you to use your debit card or credit card more - FNB earns money on every transaction, around 5% I think.
3. Collecting data regarding your spending habits and selling that on. VERY valuable data this.
4. Advertising their products and services to you in the hope you will sign up for something else. Or making it so that using more FNB products, and thus paying them more money, earns you better rewards. An example is having a homeloan.

They will never give you money for nothing.

Welllllll, the idea is to earn more ebucks, isn't it? Which will easily offset those costs. You can choose NOT to go this route, but then don't complain about getting fewer rewards.

The culture of entitlement in SA is just getting more and more prevalent. *SMH*

How is this entitlement? Expressing ones self on a public forum makes one *entitled* all of a sudden?

My point is that the change in the rules seems to be more geared to putting more people into debt, and that is not a good thing. The amount of people who have no money sense is amazing. People will now open a credit card, over draft and personal loan just to get ebucks points. Suddenly small problems become huge issues that can be sorted out with a simple swipe of something that is already in your wallet, fast forward six months, rub their eyes out and realise how much debt they are suddenly in.

sure the ebucks fees will offset the monthly costs but that is not what the bank is counting on. they are counting on Joe Sixpack to use these facilities, that then nets them a tidy little profit in interest each month.

Personally Ill live with the level 2, that doesn't make me *entitled*

Question for those in the know:
"The maximum amount of eBucks you can earn on an active FNB Laptop, Smartphone or Laptop contract per month is eB5 000."

Is that per contract, or total?

From what I remember its eB5000 in total

This is true. The majority of the population are far from "bright" financially.

I'm very thankful that I'm someone who has some ability in this field, and plan to use the eBucks offerings to such a point that it will end up as a net positive, and by a good margin. The most important thing to me with the changes is that one can get to X level within one month, rather than having to wait a year; this makes it much more open to those who can sort out a few changes to reach their desired level.

The "entitlement" comes from the perception I received from this thread that people want something for nothing, and get upset when said something for nothing is taken away. Apologies if I labelled you incorrectly - my misunderstanding.

As for the financially irresponsible... well, do you dumb down your product offering to cater for idiots, or do you aim for the cream?

The credit card rewards, by the way, seem to come from SPEND on cards, not MAINTAINING A BALANCE on cards. So there doesn't need to be an interest cost there.
The biggest single contributor to my level is my bond. I don't have a choice in whether I have a bond or not, so the interest cost on that is not something i can eliminate. Getting rewarded for it is a big plus.

question for you guys?

how does one get this 200 free ebucks at supaquick? almost no supaquick I visited know about this.

is it only a few select ones that give this reward? or what do you need to ask for?

I also want to know about this. Was under the impression this was only for private banking.

If I can get a discount on smart device with platinum accounts, that makes it more worthwhile to me, to get one so that you can get the up to 5000 Ebucks back.

I had a look at how the rules apply to Gold accounts. IMO they have made it easier to reach level 5 on both Gold and Platinum. Sure, reaching level 5 on Platinum is a bit more involved and requires deeper pockets than Gold does, however I would not say the requirements are unreasonable.

IMO the rules are out of wack in rewarding holders of higher level accounts. I qualify for Private Clients but would struggle to maintain level 3, on platinum I just make level 5 and on gold I would have a 5000 points buffer. Qualifying for the account type should be where the difficulty should be and not how it is setup now.

It should be easier for a private clients account holder to reach level 5 than a platinum or gold account and easier for a platinum account than for a gold account.

I sent off a request to downgrade my private clients credit card to a platinum card to be in line with my cheque account.

Currently on Platinum level 4 and if things continued as per the old rules I would have been on level 5 in October.
Now I will struggly to make level 2. WTF.

#$%# $%#^$&$%&^$% ^$#^%$#%^#$%#$&^&*(^&*%$$%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been building up towards level 5 and got crap like roadside assistance and money in savings pocket all for nothing now?

I am more than just pissed.
It looks like it will have to be a gold card downgrade for me. Tata my slowlounge and tata my higher % earn on spending. And at best it looks like level 4. I dont have a credit card and I dont plan to get one anytime soon. Credit cards are the bank equivalents of data OOB. Big fat carrots.

Something that has gone under the radar is also that swiping is no longer 2.5% but down to 2%. The one good thing I saw though was the discount on mobile devices, although it has now been removed from the website.

PC sent me a nice email yesterday... I'll be sticking around:
Whether you're planning a special night out or don't want to drive alone… let us drive you.
As an FNB Private Clients Credit Card holder with a Petro Card, we've added a COMPLIMENTARY Take Me Home service that you can utilise six times per year within a 50km radius from city centres in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and George.
Add to that the slow lounge, ebucks on devices etc and I'm happy to jump through the hoops needed.
