Tips to Boost your eBucks

- If I setup my debit orders to come off my credit card, it should count as "eBucks-able" transactions right? (i.e. it counts towards to 10-90%, as well as earn eBucks for the transaction) ...and while we're on that, is there any chance a bank will allow bond payments to go off a credit card?
- Also, are you able to create "scheduled payments" and “once off payments” from an FNB Credit Card, and will this count as "eBucks-able" transactions (as explained above)?
Why not keep those on the cheque account if you already have one? They're combining the points if you have a cheque and credit card of the same type. I'd expect the bank to view debit orders off your credit card account as cash withdrawals, so you'd be paying interest.

Cos a debit order or scheduled payment doesn't earn eBucks, wheras a swipe on the cheque card does.
I'm wondering if a debit order to a credit card counts as a swipe or not, that's really my question in a nutshell... which will then mean that it qualifies for 1.5% (max, @ RL5)

I also figured I should try to make my EFT payments from my credit card. Did it once, saw it comes with a R7 fee. So you can debate whether R7 per payment will be overshadowed by ebucks earned.

Linked Account Transfers R3.50
Third Party Payments R7.00

So if you transfer to your credit card each month it's just R3.50 once a month, rather than R7 per third party payment. I _think_ you can't set up traditional debit orders on credit card accounts, but I only have a vague memory that prompts this. I'd assume that the third party would need to do the "debit order" as a normal credit card transaction.

Quick calc:
R7 / 0.015 = R467
So if you're on RL5, any transaction over R467 which earns you 1.5% in eB is a win
EDIT:
...if, of course, it qualifies as a swipe

EFT payments isnt considered as 'payments' not from when I last checked with them. So it wont be counted. Only actual swipes or actual payments through an online vendor using your cc/cheque.

any idea if debit orders count as swipes? I used to have my cellphone bill come off my VirginMoney CC.
Can't actually remember why, now that I think about it!
Moved it to my cheque account some time ago already.
So, would that have counted as a swipe?
And, if so, could I then move that , or my RA payment or my levies, or my Telkom bill etc etc to be a debit order off my CC and have them all earn as swipes?

Telkom bill can be payed online or at pick and pay , which does count as a swipe.

Online payments earn 4% back in ebucks which is more then normal 2.5% .

Well closing my saving pocket so long, its going to be of no use in the future.
Also adding a small investment account to get those points...just to be sure I will be on level 5 still come November.

Jumping hoops...

So, for the sake of eBucks, the convenience of debit orders (wherever an online payment can be made instead) will have to be sacrificed.
No such thing as a free lunch, eh? :)
I've done this since the beginning, really do not like debit orders...you have no control over the payments, so only where it is absolutely necessary I have debit orders.

If you close the savings pocket before September ends then it wont count for Septembers points?

Correct! If you live on the edge of 1550 to 1600 points per month it would have been a problem.

But on this current 12 month rolling window, I am far ahead with points. 1 month is not going to hurt me the least. Currently stand on 22550 points on my cheque account, so 1 month on 0 points I would still be on reward level 5.

Basically it is annoying moving the money that "bank my change" moves, back every week. Decided I had enough of it so stopping it right now, should have done it at the start of this month when I already knew about the changes.

So then the new rules are gonna mean a whole lot less eBucks earnings for me :(
If you set it up as a monthly card deduction instead of a debit order you'll earn the ebucks.

If there's an online payment portal, there's a good chance that they will have capability to load monthly card deductions. Convenience returned.

Do all the actions (Cash @ till withdrawals, shopping from Checkers etc etc) in this month (September) go against the old rules, or against the new rules?
Does the new rules start exactly 1 October?

I plan to downgrade to Gold cheque account in October to get more ebucks. But I fly to Jozi in the first week and would love to use the Slow lounge. Perhaps I should swithch accounts just after my visit? LOL.

September actions = old rules, October level calculated using old rules.
October actions start 1st, for level in November.

But the "1000-points-for-no-bank-transactions-for-6-months", should still count 6 months backwards (i.e. from May), right?

Same here, want to figure out how to pay my insurance and gym fees via card also
