Tips to Boost your eBucks

Previous: RL5, earned between eB8000 and eB15000 depending on the month, my spending can swing from splurging to just buying what I need.

<snip>
Your spending habits sound very similar to mine. In my case, because my earning of eBucks has always been via credit card, nothing has changed for me really. I am still on RL5 and i was awarded eB12,000 on 7 Nov. Last month (8 Oct) was just under eB10,000 but this is not indicative of anything really due to erratic spending patterns.

My only gripe is they may be short changing me on some eB rewards on Fuel spend, but that is something I need to investigate before crying blue murder.

edit: Looks like some of us should ask FNB retentions department for commission or bill them for time & materials ;)

How are eBucks being calculated now?

Have they cleared the last years stuff? I only see November now on my eBucks points. Are they still working on an annual total for eBucks or month to month?

So my points came in.

Previous rewards = level 1
Current rewards = level 3

Current points: 15 500

Pts to lvl 4: 500
Pts to lvl 5: 2500

Items I can do to reach level 5 (that are relevant for me):

6 debit orders = extra 500 pts as i'm only getting 500 out of the max 1000 available. All i'd need to do is have 1 or 2 more debit orders.

Global acc with balance greater than 1000 for EUR / GBP or 1500 USD or 1600 AUD or 90 000 INR or 9000 CYN = 3000 pts

Investment account with 10k or more = 2500 pts

International purchases using your cheque or CC = 1500 pts (I'm not sure how I didn't get this one as I pay for eBay / hosting via PayPal which uses my Platinum CC - can anyone clarify why I'm not getting this allocation?)

Monthly balance of R15 000 or more in cheq acc or savings pocket = 2000 pts

Also hit level 3 this month, and that was with a pretty large unplanned expense cutting into my cash buffer. Should have able to get to level 4 without much trouble, 5 if I get my cash buffer back and do some small tweaks.

Earning points to get to a high reward level has never been purely about spend amount. It's about changing your banking behaviour in a manner that favours the bank.

Being on Private Banking though means that the the hoops that need to be jumped through are much harder than if one were on Platinum or Gold. You need deep pockets for Private Banking and obviously the desire to jump through their eBucks Reward hoops.

My biggest issue is my rewards level has dropped from 5 to 3 as they no longer take, my investments and multiple home loans into account to boost my rewards level. So whats the point of having 9+ accounts with FNB? I drop a fair amount of money with FNB on bank fees in a month across both my personal and business accounts. FNB helped me to structure my accounts to help with the ebucks and now they change the rules. Investec's rates are now looking a lot better as the financial gain I received from ebucks makes FNB much more expensive. FNb is shooting themselves in the foot by continuously eroding the eBucks benefits.

Hard to comment without knowing what accounts you have and what your banking behaviour is, but yeah perhaps they are losing the plot with Private Clients!

Slightly off topic but still eBucks related.

I ordered some Kalahari vouchers from the eBucks store, but as of yet i've still to receive anything via email.

Any thoughts? Is there a delay on this as they get manually processed?

Thanks,

If you don't get something within the next working day, there could be an issue.

I was previously on level 5, but to ensure that I remained there I had to move money around a bit.

Result, still on level 5 and just more than 17500 EBucks. Not too shabby.

Now to decide what to buy with 40% off. A Garmin sports watch sounds a good idea.

Guys, just a quick question, other than the slow lounge (whatever it's called) benefit on platinum, is there any other reason/s having platinum over gold is better in terms of ebucks reward?

EDIT: meant bank discounts and ebucks earning.

The color of the cards :P

FNBconnect adsl, platinum gets up to 100% discount vs 80% on gold.

I think that is about it...

Gold credit account

Previous reward level - 3
Now - 5

20000 points
much easier to hit 5 on new rules .

So over the weekend, FNB fixed some stuff and I am up to level 4 but I should be at level 5, will have to chase this down in the week. Sent an email for now.

I was on plat and moved to gold as it is easier for me to get to level 5. I travel maybe every second month and reach the airport to late to use the lounge and I don't have ADSL so no down side for me.

As per my calc I should earn R719 worth of ebucks from October, with 40% discount and Kalahari and Takealot vouchers I am hoping to get close to R1,400 worth of stuff, creating my online checkouts already. FNB just need to sorry their stuff out already.

Will post an update if online tickets qualify as online spend. It should, did anyone else get this?

Also heres an excel sheet to calculate ebucks on gold bundle. https://mega.co.nz/#!7pEUEQ5J!RyHaHaNz0GtLyUdSxR4AJCjH2m-n4f70iA2xtz0PfGw
