Tips to Boost your eBucks

In the article.

Is there any benefit in only having a cheque account? Or does the "real" benefit start in having a credit card?

They trying to make it such that your cheque account is merely settlement account into which money flows and debit orders paid. The spending they push to credit cards because the bank earns more on these from merchants (credit risk) than from the cheque/debit card transaction.

Now they in the 2nd phase of getting people to use their other 'value addon' services like savings, investment, loans. so there will likely be more points assigned to these to push people to use these products albeit its not their core banking product thus fees for these could be pretty sucky besides performance. Will be interesting to see..

What will be even more interesting is next year.. will they take this further to things like asset & life insurance? meh I'm dreading the day some bright spark suggests they push for these to earn ebucks decently. I reckon it may be coming in like a 3rd or 4th phase.. but right now it looks like a savings & investment product push. I wish FNB realised that some of their products just suck do to the limits imposed.. e.g. TFSA with FNB sucks due to limited stock

I want to see the rules changes for Premium vs Private to decide if I should upgrade or not.

Would be nice to get that before first of June as I have some serious planned spending.

A few friends upgraded and went from R1000 a month (10 000eB) to less than R100, so they downgraded back to Premium again.

Yeah they obviously didn't make the Reward Levels.

I would be fine there. Thing is I'm being capped by online etc at present and could use some of the bonus features.

But will need to see if those feature disappear or more get added this year.

Well, in short, lets take myself as an example (why would I upgrade if I get ALL free banking on my cheque account). FNB pays me to bank with them. To upgrade will mean I need to pay and get even less rewards.

Now lets compare (Free banking vs paying R349 a month for accounts). I think the bundled options is R349 on private.

And If you compare what you get more. How does 1% increase in rewards sound ?

Everyone to their own I suppose

What do you mean Free?

Fee saver? That doesn't apply to many of us.

Offset by eBucks mine is free as well.

So if I make at least 1500 EB more it's still free. But then the other benefits need to make sense.

Yeah, the upgrade from Platinum to Private for Ebucks alone don't seem worth the effort. It ultimately comes down to what Private offers otherwise.

The fee saver option on private is R50 000 or R75 000

Its a pity FNB changed the personal bankers which was allocated to every client. Now its a team.

Garson007, you are spot on with that ! You are not getting much more rewards just by upgrading.

I noticed you earn more ebucks at Dischem then Makro...just an observation - so go to dischem and spend spend spend!

I combine my vitality rewards with ebucks at Dischem. Same at Woolworths. Earns me more than at Checkers, but need to buy specific goods.

What is it on premium?

Isn't it only for clients who had it before?

Eish these new rules will probably mean I will drop down from level5 again.
Time to redeem as many ebucks as possible @ level 5 (with 40% off). Makro here I come.

If you have to take additional products each will have their own fees, I can just see that I will be earning less as a big chunk will be fees. They are forcing me to buy investment products. On an investment you can easily pay R300-500 p/m in fees (TER+performance fees+account fees) when you invest R50000. All so you can earn some ebucks back. All they do is charge you fees, give them back as "rewards" so they can keep you as a client, clever. I will have to reconsider if this is still worth the effort
