Having trouble with DRM-rights s/w from Multichoice again - they previously didn't update to allow for Linux platforms' access to their DStv Stream (catch-up) service and have done it again. It's been months!

(Strangely their sister co. Showmax still works fine, and last I checked the SuperSport site too.)

I'm wondering if using Wine s/w and one of its settings if used on my Ubuntu might fool the s/w that it's a Windows platform?
Any other ideas very welcome

Edit: Showmax later became a problem as well.

wine + chrome might work.
Chromium + widevine install could also work, but with DSTV you never know.

Last time I think it was about 6 months then they fixed it, maybe depends on how many complaints they get. Went off this time when they changed their catch-up url so could just be a server issue and they're asleep.

Learnt how and tried this last night, no go.

Also tried changing my User Agent in Firefox - nope.
Not sure I'm willing to put Chrome itself in so... will see.

Tip re an altered user agent - when using a Win-Edge or Win-Chrome setting it caused certain streams to give a crackling audio that was useless. Win-Firefox was fine.
I presume actual use of Win with those browsers causes similar. lol

Is there not a Kodi add-on that allows you to sign in using your DSTV credentials and stream that way?

Great news is it still works, DStv even redirects the integrating final step to their new dstv.stream url
Not an easy install though.

For others;
* Use the "\" key to toggle between full-screen and window mode in Kodi else you won't be able to complete this
DStv-usage app's install with the needed browser access.
* When changing DStv's stream quality (options vanish fast... would then need a re-start) , that can cause a few confusion errors but it does recover, just keep trying.

Edit: Some things in Kodi don't respond to just a mouse-click, then press the Enter key as well.

In the last few days dstv.stream got a GUI facelift, and yes, now working directly on an Ubuntu browser (etc.) once again.

Showmax still reports an error on Ubuntu, and unfortunately the Kodi app for it wasn't properly updated.. yet.
