Tiredness / Fatigue

My wife seems to have the same problem and i have the opposite... Can't sleep but not exactly tired during the day either except maybe after lunch.

i have read a few studies in the past that too much sleep can be very bad for you in the long term. 7 - 9 hours i optimum I think. Also quality of sleep is exceptionally important. Is there anything that wakes you up at night? Does your partner snore? Time for a new matress?

Try cut out all caffeine based products, if you drink alcohol - drink less, eat healthier. A friend of mine has low iron in her blood, she gets tired very quickly. Have that and your blood pressure checked out at a GP!

And lastly, are you under significant stress, short or long term?

I have two kids and 3 dogs that wake me up during the night :p tho waking up once or twice a night for various things has been happening for years.

Do you like your job, do you find it stressful or are you developing 'I could not give a fsck' attitude towards your job?

It might not be anything physical or medical related.

My job is not exactly engaging but I enjoy it. Tho I suppose we are going thru a stressful time atm. We are changing accountants and busy selling the business. We are planning to relocate to the cape by the end of the year.

A possibility ?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The main symptom is persistent fatigue. The CDC criteria for CFS are as follows:

Severe unexplained fatigue for over six months that is
of a new or definite onset
not due to continuing exertion
not resolved by rest
functionally impairing
The presence of four or more of the following new symptoms:
Impaired memory or concentration
Sore throat
Tender lymph nodes
Muscle pain
Pain in several joints
Headache of a new type, pattern or severity
Sleep disturbance: difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking or waking unrefreshed
Exhaustion, lasting more than 24 hours, after normal exercise or exertion.

People with CFS also commonly report various additional symptoms to those mentioned above.

Well there's your problems!!! Bad sleep + high continuous stress = burnout!!

Solution: Take kids to family for the weekend, book the dogs into a kennel and take 3 days off to somewhere secluded and quiet!

Have has a similar problem lately. Went to the doctor and all my tests came back perfect. He told me it's probably because I'm bored at work and it's not challenging or interesting which I would have to agree with. He gave me Gerycomplex to give me a boost during the day - doesn't help at all :(

Try some iron supplements. should see results in 3 days but have a gp give you some good quality stuff, not the over the counter junk.

I did a lot of research into this at one point and found that it's not so much the quantity of sleep I get, so much as when I get it. For example, I currently go to sleep at about 12.30/1.00 am and get up at 7.00 am, and so I get about 6-7 hours of sleep. I generally feel tired.

Now you could say, just sleep more, but I know it's not that. I used to work evenings/nights part time. I would go to sleep at about 4am, get up at about 10/11am and feel 100% for the rest of the day. I can't remember the term, but it's got to do with sleep cycles and how as a teenager, your sleep cycles shift because of your hormonal changes. What usually happens, is that as puberty ends the sleep patterns revert to a more typical sleep pattern. In some cases however, it doesn't.

It's the main reason I am trying to shift my career towards freelance, so that I can sleep during my best sleeping hours. And again, this isn't anything that a doctor told me. It was just me reading and monitoring my sleep patterns and energy levels.

Hell, I'm just not making it through the day anymore. I feel like i'm about to pass out at my desk I'm so tired.

All my life I have gone to bed at 11ish and woken up at around 6. For the last few weeks it really feels like I need an afternoon nap. I have been going to bed at 9ish and waking up at six but the extra two hours is making no difference.

Today I had a Berocca boost with breakfast and a Supradyn recharge at about 11 and I still feel like I'm about to pass out.

What do I do?

Your body is probably fighting something. For years I also felt tired. I suffered in the army and was always the last person in a run.

Turns out I had a mild case of ankylosis spondylitis. It took over 20 years for the medical profession to diagnose it. They only found it because i started suffereing hectic back pain due to the inflamation and the marker gene was picked up in tests. It occurs mainly in young men. Not saying you have this, but it could be something like it.

These supplements don't help. They are a waste of money and just make you depressed because they dont have an effect. I now take a tablet every 2 days or so and I have no problem.

Go to your GP, let the GP take your blood pressure, you might have low blood pressure.
Slightly low blood pressure can cause fatigue that is not relieved by sleeping. (less blood/O2 reaches the body/brain and causes tiredness)

+1. Go see a Doc.

It could be one of 10 000 things. Blood pressure, sleep apnea, iron levels, etc etc.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have scheduled an appointment with a doc.

GYM

I've heard that hitting the gym works .. besides if you lift heavy weights etc , i guess that your body will increase its capacity or level of tolerance to know when it should feel tired. i dont gym tho lol but im planning to, i kinda have the same prob:(

I think you guys (those who are struggling) need to go to your GP or DR and have a full on check up done - let them check your blood pressure, sugar levels etc etc etc.

Seriaaaaas! :)

After the check up, he can advise you from there - exercise will also help.
