I would like you guys to give me your opinion about your N8. Anything will be useful becuase I'm deciding whether to get the N8 or wait for the new sony ericsson ericsson xperia arc or neo. thanks

Loving mine. Sometimes it lags a bit, but overall I'm very happy. Just hoping that the next update brings about the qwerty keyboard in portrait mode.

I love mine.
I love it's simplicity. What it does, it does exceptionally well.
I love the camera. I make use of it alot. In fact I use it more than my DSLR (can't carry that around all the time)
I really like the OVI marketplace. I find it faaaar better than Android. Yes, Android has much more available, but I (personally) find that the apps on OVI are of a better quality.

My N8 doesnt lag at all. I do have the latest update (13.016) as well as for all the apps.
Games run very well, the 3d chip is extremely good (runs 720p over HDMI with Dolby Digital Plus).

The Xperia Arc/Neo are both Android phones. So you pretty much asking for a pears/apples comparison.
Still, the AMOLED screen + Gorilla Glass on the N8 are fantastic.

:)

i thought i mention somthing here , even though i dont own one :P , ovi maps FTW! still use my old 5800 as a gps nothing can compare :P

Absolutely!!!
Lifetime Free turn-by-turn navigation.
Awesome.
:)

Oh, and N8 comes with 6 months unlimited music downloads from OVI Music (a smaller version of iTunes - though, none of that DRM cr@p).

In fairness, the music that you get as part of the unlimited downloads does come with DRM. The songs you pay for don't though - still better than iTunes.

How so, maybe my understanding of DRM is incorrect.
Because, I "lent" all my music downloaded to my brother and he plays them no problem.

Maybe I'm wrong and they changed it

I understood it to be useable on the phone and one PC.

The DRM for music is random, its not supposed to be drm, but I think they maybe still swapping over caue my music from them is still has DRM. I Don't have a n8, I have a x6. But my GF has the n8 and the only con of the phone I've seen so far is that her battery runs out little to fast, I think this is isolated but might wanna get some feedback on that.

My battery lasts 2-3 days with moderate usage. I think the wifi is the culprit in draining battery life, so you may just want to check with her that it's not always on or searching for access points.

Music unlimited is only for use on 1 PC and the phone. My music stopped downloading a couple of weeks ago though. Not been able to resolve it yet.
Then n8 camera is ok. I preferred my n82's.
Mine loves to reboot itself.
Ovi Maps rule! I've not seen traffic rerouting work in Jozi yet. If that works you can't beat Ovi. Paid or free.
Battery life is decent (2 day) comparing to other smartphones.

I'll wait for the Arc and see what that has to offer. 8 Megapixel camera? It might be a very good implementation might not.

After playing around with an N86 (8mp camera), I can say with absolute certainty that the N8 has a much better camera.
My traffic rerouting works fine here in Jhb.

Mine has no issues whatsoever.
Does yours have the latest firmware?

I tried flashing the phones firmware but no updates were available, pretty sure the wifi isnt auto searching, we use a app called fring which uses wifi and I can understand that being a drain but on my x6 its not that bad. Even with that not running her battery is rubbish, lucky if it lasts a day without charge I think. Gonna get a new battery I think. Also on a side note stay away from 8ta, terrible service provider IHMO.

Definitely check the wifi dude - that's a classic symptom. If not that, then some network connection is off.

Happened to me as well. The culprit in my case turned out to be the email application, which auto-connected to my AP whenever I was home. I had to set it to never synchronise - I'll manually synchronise my mail accounts if I need to. Also check the settings on the home screen to make sure that the widgets are not set to online mode, because that automatically connects as well.

Ja. Something is going on.
Mine is almost permanently connected to my router, widgets active.
I have, though, disabled UMTS mode, only use GSM.
Must admit, the 13.016 firmware has increased battery life by quite a bit.
Signs are that PR2.0 will increase it by another 25% (under optimal conditions).

Thanks, yeah I'll look at it again and double check settings, change to GSM as well. Otherwise I'll have to wait till there is a new firmware. Last call would be battery replacement but that would be a pain since you have to get it done at a shop. But yeah don't wanna highjack the topic. The N8 is a good choice as a phone.

Yeah. Got PR 1.1. I'm lucky that way. Got the dud and not a backup phone till end April. Will take it in then. I'll check it out maybe I'm not using Ovi Maps correctly.

What contracts do you'll have the N8 on? Anyone seen any good deals?

What do you mean by "No DRM"? You cannot play the downloaded OVI music unless you play it on your registered PC and of course the N8. A DRM remover program is to be used to clear the DRM from the music. No issue anyway.
