to all N8 users

ya I also get it, so Im just trying to explain better :)

I understand exactly what you trying to say.
I tried to find an HTC for the same price as the N8 - and couldn't.
Yes, the HD is very good but can't be compared to the N8 on many levels either.

You can't compare a flagship Ferrari to a flagship VW either.

Unfortunately, price does play a part. A huge one at that.
If price weren't an issue, then yes, I (perhaps) would have considered the HD. Though, to be honest - I was looking for a cameraphone, and found exactly that in the N8. Perfect.

The HD does very well in many areas, so does the N8.
I'm sure you bought the HD based on certain criteria. Obviously no other phone met them.
The N8 ticked all my requirements and then some.

;)

I'm not sure where you get the idea that it's slow from. Good for you for not getting a slow phone ever again, way to show us :)

a collegue of mine has the N8, put it next to my DHD, and he had to swollow his pride and conclude that it was slower, either Nokia need to optimise or they need to get faster cpus in thier phones. agreed. the phones call into different price segments but its not a fast phone, never say that its fast, stop fooling yourself.

It's neither fast nor slow. Of course it's slower next to an Android phone, but that doesn't make it unusable. I can put up with a bit of lag for having a phone with that much functionality at that price.

Im still somewhat of a Nokia fanboy, my current phone is my first non-nokia phone. I hope for thier sake that they dig themselves out of this.

I can't see what people are describing as lag on the N8.
Personally, I found the lag on my Android so bad, that I couldn't bare it anymore. So I bought the N8 and couldn't be happier.

Well an example is that I have about 2000 SMSes (sent and received), so opening up a conversation takes about 2 seconds for me. Another example is when you need to type something (like replying to an SMS, entering a web address, etc.), bringing up the keyboard isn't instantaneous, it does lag a bit. It's obviously not as bad as people are making it out to be though.

That's weird.
I have about 1300 or so, but don't notice any wait..
:/
My Android was terrible. Phone would ring, and when I pushed the answer button (onscreen), it took about a second to answer. Highly irritating. The sms viewing lagged horribly. I had about 780 or something and the scrolling lagged like a mofo. Horrible.

So far, Symbian^3 is proving to me, to be the more efficient OS.

how did u compare drop them off a table?
yes the n8 does have a slower procesor 680MHZ (actualy a 772mhz downclocked) and the dhd a 1GHZ, thats on paper but what test did you do to prove its faster?

general feel and responsiveness, how long does it take to open the camera app, or how long does it take to save a recorded video, things like that, basically stuff which you do daily. even though it is kind of a subjective test, my friend with his N8 said my phone was abit more responsive.

Like i said in my previous posts, its kinda pointless comparing the N8 to the DHD (different price segments) its also pointless comparing your new shiney N8 to your old Android device from 2009

No it's not.

The software for the device hasn't changed.
The processor on the Android hasn't degraded. The OS hasn't changed. Android 1.5, modified by HTC for the HTC Hero, should perform at it's best.
The comparison is valid.

What you mentioned about subjectivity, is valid. In my case as well - heck, I've even eluded to that on a number of occasions.

lol? ok so the two phones have similar specs where it matters for performance, although the hero being the underdog here, youre comparing a phone with an outdated OS to a phone with an up to date OS, i dont think you realise how big the jump was from Eclair to froyo, the optimisations that google made in 2.2 was mindboggling, i still dont think its a fair comparison, its like comparing new BMW to an old similarly priced Camry.

New algorithms, datastructures, methods, optimisations allow for phones with 2.2 to perform at thier best

nope which is why it isnt a fair comparison, software is a big component to look at when comparing two devices dont you agree?

I agree that software is a major component - yes. I believe that it is (at most) 70% of the device (depending on user requirements).
However, regarding the comparisons..
It is a fair comparison. The stock OS with the Hero vs. the stock OS with the N8 - fair.
I'm comparing the OS that was released with the phone. Why would a manufacturer release an OS that doesn't make the phone work at it's best? Sure you release updates - that's expected.

To compare the N8 with any device released after it was is also unfair then, isn't it?
Then comparing the N8 to a phone in a price bracket higher than it is also unfair (i.e. > R4999), right?
