No doubt about that, but was everyone offered the education/opportunities to become fantastic engineer?

That's why I said "say what you want", I didn't claim it was fair.

It's just a pity the ANC didn't have the foresight to extend the system to continue to create the same quality graduates in an all inclusive environment.

The education system obviously worked, why did this present government insist on changing it?

Surely all the houses were built by companies registered with the NHBRC (As per tender specification), and therefore will automatically build using established industry proven techniques and materials that are cost-effective and lasting.

And, the NHBRC protects the consumer.
And, the NHBRC inspects building sites.

So, why does Tokyo not go to the oh so fantastic NHBRC and get a refund and rebuild?

Could it be that the NHBRC is worthless?
No.
Really?

Perhaps Tokyo should page through the Housing Consumer Protection Measures Act, 1998 (Act No. 95 1998), and get some Attorneys in to slap the builders around, as well as the NHBRC while they're at it.

The problem is not the NHBRC IMO, the problem is goverment. They will only pay a maximum amount, I've heard amounts as low as R50k for a house. And you are NOT going to get lasting quality at that sort of costing.

So goverment must revise the amount they are prepared to pay for a house to reflect a more realistic costing if they really want to improve the quality of the housing.

Is there something wrong with someone asking for substantiating of a statement?

Or are you happy a black person said SOMETHING was good about apartheid that it makes you have a warm and fuzzy feeling? ;)

Sigh and here you start again.

It about the people who are provided with houses that is not up to living standard. That means there is a problem. You need to start thinking outside of your little Black vs White box and think about the people this affects.

FFS, you guys make me sick

R 50k is more than enough to build a decent house to live in which is a major upgrade from a shack. I build a garrage on a plot I owned for R 37k. 4 walls, a Zink roof and big enough for 2 cars. That is no excuse. It's about the quality of work. More BBE tenders to useless fk'rs who can't even build a clay ball with everything provided.

I feel for these people, they have waited years and years and years for houses. They get them and are all happy. This however is short lived as the ash bricks crumble at the first sign of rain....

WOOT !!!!

Go BBE, go corrution, go ANC. You are failing the poorest of the poor people. I'm just glad I don't have to face the music come judgement day :) The masses will realize oneday that they are being fed dog **** while the rest is eating KFC. Now I wish I'm still around the day that happens :D

You must be kidding I suppose. So apartheid never existed to you. No surprises there.

Thats not what i said. I asked a question. I was also under the impression that he had to study while he was in jail and no black person was educated above std 5.

But then this forum showed me the right facts.

So i'm asking if how did he become an attourney if he was not allowed to study?

He is the son of a chief... they made sure he got everything he could.

Having said that - Heita dude... you really think that the governments stupid(izing) of the education system, lax entrance requirements and many other rubbish things are good for SA? I mean, if the whiteys did a good job of keeping black people uneducated, the ANC has turned it into an ART FORM.

I think the building industry in this country sets a much lower standard (maybe because of the NHBRC). My house (4 years later) has massive damp issues that should never have been allowed to occur. The difference is I pay enough in levies and have enough surplus income to pay for structural engineers to come in an alleviate the problem.

These unfortunate buggers will have to live in those houses until they fall down.

Here's another point I'd like to raise. The tea lady at work, who eventually became our secretary owns a R350 000 house that she paid for herself. I have managed to pay off about R50 000 on my house so far. She is doing far better than I am at acquiring property. If she can do it on her salary, why are the other buggers so lazy?

That is just the thing Mila, lots of people in SA today have no idea what apartheid was and what it all entailed. They use it as an excuse for every little thing even education.

Mandela studied in AFRIKAANS. The biggest thing about the previously disadvantaged was that they refused to study in Afrikaans. That caused their own downfall. Ever heard of the phrase "Cut off your nose to spite your face" ? Cos that fits PERFECTLY !

Was it right to force people to get an education in Afrikaans ? NO!
Was the opportunity there for them to get an education even if it was in Afrikaans? YES!

They got the same kind of education as the rest of SA. We were also fed the propaganda bull****. They just had the harshest places to learn in. They never had Massive schools and mint classrooms. But they had schools and they had teachers.

The legacy of Apartheid will never die as it's a simple excuse for their own laziness. Mandela could do it, if he could anyone could have. Was the road hard? YES. Did he push through and overcame the challenges. YES. That is the reason Mandela is such a brilliant person. He didn’t ask for handouts. I made the best of what he had and fought for what he believed in.

Unlike some constant whiners on here ;)

So now its the fault of the Royal families that Blacks were kept uneducated?

This brings up the question about JZ having spent 10 years on Robben Island with Nelson Mandela, yet he couldn't finish his matric in the same time that Nelson Mandela completed three additional degrees. The ANC realised the importance of education otherwise we wouldn't have had the Black Conciousness movement or the 1976 riots. However, Jacob Zuma believed it was unnecessary to educate himself.

The current education system is bad, but it is better than the bantu education that we had. So for the majority of people in SA, this current education system is better than no education at all.

IT SHOULD BE 10X better though.

OMG. You don't know what bantu education is, do you?

You spell amazingly good for some one who got bantu education. So why did you rise and not the rest?

*Thought*
*Inhaled*
*Exhaled*

ARE YOU INSANE?

*INHALE*
*EXHALE*

The higher up you are, the more pressure you are under. Also, the royal families weren't poor as dirt as the normal blacks. They could make arrangements for him to get a better education than others received and made bloody sure he did well.

How on Earth did you get that farcical info from my statement.

Ohhhhh Lord, i see this thread being reported and closed very soon.

Pitbull, as you obviously know Mandela is also part of the Xhosa royal clan and hence he did get better education...thats where he also got his "Christian" name from (I won't explain the whole white name/ black name thing. Google it).

I also get a sense of a lot of "I'm not racist but..." types in this forum. It's all nice and lardy dah to comment on a website and theorise about things you personally didn't go through.

Yes there are exceptions to every rule. You're trying to tell me the Jews who died in the holocaust died cause they weren't willing to wear disquises, willing to scorn their religion, willing to run thousands of kilometres like the few who did? Likewise you cannot judge a nation of millions on a few thousand who managed to make something with what they had.

My folks grew up in the midst of Apartheid. Both were teachers in Orlando at the height of the June 16 uprisings, both saw their students being shot. My mom was removed from Sofiatown, my dad still has his pass books, my gran still has sjambok scars...you cannot theorise the pyschology of Apartheid and wish it away like some lazy excuse used by these "lazy buggers".

What a frustrating thread. *sigh*

It was that same ANC that said 'liberation before education' and now wonder why people get 20% for woodwork.
