You spell amazingly good for some one who got bantu education. So why did you rise and not the rest?

Reading and writing (or spelling good for that matter) doesn't mean I had the best education.
Anyway, one can always better his "education" with the new better, but not great, one I suppose.

The higher up you are, the more pressure you are under. Also, the royal families weren't poor as dirt as the normal blacks. .

And all white people where all rich. And got handed free houses and could go to school and university for free...
you do make apartheid sound like heaven... Keep on going you are going to convince even the black people to bring it back...

Oke fine so if you did not better yourself in the new goverment you are lazy. And if you did not want to better yourself and it has nothing to do with apartheid.

Is there something wrong with someone asking for substantiating of a statement?

Or are you happy a black person said SOMETHING was good about apartheid that it makes you have a warm and fuzzy feeling? ;)

Yes ecstatic  I'm more happy that a politician has pointed out that maybe the governments service delivery was sub par. Sheesh talk about paranoid

Ohhhhh Lord, i see this thread being reported and closed very soon.

Pitbull, as you obviously know Mandela is also part of the Xhosa royal clan and hence he did get better education...thats where he also got his "Christian" name from (I won't explain the whole white name/ black name thing. Google it).

I also get a sense of a lot of "I'm not racist but..." types in this forum. It's all nice and lardy dah to comment on a website and theorise about things you personally didn't go through.

Yes there are exceptions to every rule. You're trying to tell me the Jews who died in the holocaust died cause they weren't willing to wear disquises, willing to scorn their religion, willing to run thousands of kilometres like the few who did? Likewise you cannot judge a nation of millions on a few thousand who managed to make something with what they had.

My folks grew up in the midst of Apartheid. Both were teachers in Orlando at the height of the June 16 uprisings, both saw their students being shot. My mom was removed from Sofiatown, my dad still has his pass books, my gran still has sjambok scars...you cannot theorise the pyschology of Apartheid and wish it away like some lazy excuse used by these "lazy buggers".

What a frustrating thread. *sigh*

100% correct and I agree with you.

I think we all know the Mandela story by now ;) The fact that you have people under the age of 40 playing the "Appartheid" tune when it comes to education needs to cath a wake up. If you are 30 odd years, black and still uneducated...... YOU FAIL !!!!!! It's not appartheid's fault it's yours. If you where to dumb to go to school but would rather run in the streets and steel cos it made you feel good. It's your own fault. I agree, Appartheid was the worst thing ever to happen in the world next only to the Holocast.

Buts seriously, 15 years on into a democrazy, Schooling which was changed back then by the old "TDO" from the early 80's already. Stop with the bloody excuses already and fix the fk'ng problems.

This isn't an us vs them issue. Sox merely asked for a link presumably because he hadn't seen or heard of this yet. Not sure why asking for a link results in things getting personal.

Tokyo has my vote to get things sorted out - I have more confidence in him than 90% of the cabinet...

It's not about getting personal it's about seeing the pattern on this forum where once people have been given a link to prove other than what they think contribute no further to a thread.

Mila, this is the densest thing you have ever said (that I have come across). Where am I saying apartheid is good? Or any of that other info. Mandela was a higher up. He got things others couldn't. Like Harry and William went to Eton and Rothersham Public School. They went to Cambridge, not the University of Greater Piddlington. Seriously, you must have tried that tea I recommended... I told you not to overdo it!

Ok. So we agree on one point then. :p

The "Freedom Generation" has no excuses, THAT I agree with. I also believe we generally come from a country of people who expect government to spoon feed them merely coz they voted for them.

Any system that favours according to stereotypes (black, white, asian, shiite, sunni, christian, atheist) is just turning its people into sheep. Agree 100%

That is just the thing Mila, lots of people in SA today have no idea what apartheid was and what it all entailed. They use it as an excuse for every little thing even education.

Mandela studied in AFRIKAANS. The biggest thing about the previously disadvantaged was that they refused to study in Afrikaans. That caused their own downfall. Ever heard of the phrase "Cut off your nose to spite your face" ? Cos that fits PERFECTLY !

Was it right to force people to get an education in Afrikaans ? NO!
Was the opportunity there for them to get an education even if it was in Afrikaans? YES!

They got the same kind of education as the rest of SA. We were also fed the propaganda bull****. They just had the harshest places to learn in. They never had Massive schools and mint classrooms. But they had schools and they had teachers.

The legacy of Apartheid will never die as it's a simple excuse for their own laziness. Mandela could do it, if he could anyone could have. Was the road hard? YES. Did he push through and overcame the challenges. YES. That is the reason Mandela is such a brilliant person. He didn’t ask for handouts. I made the best of what he had and fought for what he believed in.

Unlike some constant whiners on here ;)
Its strange on this forum how some people can actually defend such an idiotic post. So Blacks didnt suffer under apartheid because of its policies but rather that they were lazy. Rubbish!

The current education system is bad, but it is better than the bantu education that we had. So for the majority of people in SA, this current education system is better than no education at all.

IT SHOULD BE 10X better though.

In 1991 under the old Bantu education regime 11% of blacks writing matric achieved a university exemption. In 2006 after 12 years under the new and improved ANC education system only 11.6% of Black Africans who did matric got a university exemption, compared to half of white learners.

A big improvement (0.6%) on apartheid education hey lol. Nobody keeps a black man down like another black man. Its shocking! It is just plain sickening that education has not improved and that the ANC shows no accountability and just points fingers.

I love how you bring colour into it once again. What is the problem on this forum with colour?

Don't you think We the White kids born after 1976 where also done a great unjust ? We where told Black people are the dumbest race in the world, evolution is true that is where the black people came from. We where the superior race put on earth by God. Black people can't judge distance they can't social in groups, they live like animals as they never clean after themselves.

This we where all fed from a very young age at school. Appartheid had many victims, not just the black people of SA. Allot of racist people born before 1990 is the fault of Appartheid. You my friend seems to be one of these people. Pls, you have no idea as to what appartheid was and what it caused. ;)

O NOES !

Pls don't provide stats, people like manesan will call you an idiot for saying black people had the means to an education back then

I know a lot of people back home who had good grades in high school, but can't further their studies coz of poverty. So the government should assist them.

Amazing that 95% of the posts in this thread have nothing to do with the actual solution.
The posters remind me of parliament.

Don't you realise that every political motivated thread turns into anc vs da, black vs white? That's just the way it is on this forum.

Pitbull where the hell were you at school? I was born in '78 and was never taught racist nonsense at school. In fact my Std. 2 and 3 class teachers risked their own asses by saying how evil apartheid was. Not all whites grew up like that.

But that isn't for lack of funding, I think it's more a communication problem on the side of Governenment. Billions are put aside for education each year and grants for good students with no money are available...it's actually written in law, when I was a student in 2001, any student who's family had an income of less than R30 000 a year qualified for full payment of the tuition fees via TEFSA
