Tomatoes WTF ??

Kvisttomater.jpg

We get these beauties out here. Pretty much a normal tomato in every way (obviously) but they taste so goooooooood

Well the WW ones are the best I can find locally. Pretty sure they are GM but at least they aren't flippin green & bruised.

Yes, for sauces, stews etc...
Please elaborate/link.

If you take a look at what produce sells in SA the 3 highest sellers are potatoes, onions and tomatoes.
I call bullsht. Surely apples rank higher than those.

I tasted a tomato at a friends place some time back, the thing was green, looking real unripe.
However, that was nothing more than a ruse. It was perfectly ripe & was supposed to be green.
I dont think I have ever tasted a tomato quite like it.
What was it?

I suspect it may have come from Giovanni's deli in Greenpoint

I'd love to grow the kind of tomatoes that you get in the Mediterranean which are less juicy than what we normally get but really firm, fresh, meaty and full of flavour. I've seen plum and beefsteak-like varieties. I don't think I've seen any like them anywhere else and they are fantastic in salad.

... You can blame the likes of woolworths and their stupid clientèle for this pandemic...

Oh yes...it is only Woolworths and only their stupid clientele.

/facepalm

Funny thing that Woolworths sells "exotic" tomatoes that are not even red.

OT but "clientele" should only have an accent mark when used in French, not in English, otherwise you're just using two different languages.

In general, French words that retain the accent mark in English usually keep the accent marks to differentiate them from another English word spelled the same way but without accent marks eg rosé (vs rose) and résumé (vs resume)

fixed it for ya ;)

Just bought some Spar tomatoes. The looked really good - but they are rock hard...as if someone painted a complete unripe tomatoes red. Not impressed.

Ya I like the idea of planting a few different varieties and going from there. I LOVE tomatoes and everything that goes with it but I must agree that most tomatoes which are store bought have no real taste.
I also love drinking tomato juice and probably go through at least two cartons a week:o Started growing some earlier this year and the few that grew were delicious compared to the normal ones. Will set up
an automated watering system so they have a better chance of surviving this year :D

I blame you! That said I'm
For some homegrown tomatoes! :D

I love fresh tomatoes, especially the mouth-watering scent of ripe tomatoes. Omnomnomnom!

I'm also crazy about sun-dried tomatoes. I buy a big pot every month:

Great on bread, great alone, great in lasagne, great with EVERYTHING.

Only problem is that the pot barely lasts a week :o
