I'm sure I stumbled over an article by one of the Hullett family where he said the root of the problem goes back 1960'ish. Anybody whose Google-Foo is up to the challenge? Could have been in Business Day.

How could the problem go back that far, they misstated something in the 60's that never got corrected??

Interesting thread. I’d urge everyone to watch “That Sugar Film”. It’s very entertaining and although it has its critics, the points are valid and it made me and everyone else I know who has watched it change their lifestyle and views on sugar.

Were you one of those that also changed their lives over watching SuperSize Me? Or Vaxxed? As this is on that level, especially since some of his experts were David Avocado Wolf.

All of the top management resigning days before bad news. I really hope there is some consequences for these people if they have been acting unlawfully.

You can scoff all you like, but I suppose I was when it comes down to these kind of food documentaries. You can take good information from them if you look past the obvious bias that some of them exhibit and read between the lines.

The depiction he presented of fat being replaced with sugar in “diet” products is good information from that movie alone and it certainly helped me to control my eating and realise what I’m doing to myself. And weighing in this morning at 91.2kg from my high of 104 is testament to that.

But sure. You know better. Carry on.

I don't need a guy who changed his entire lifestyle over a girl, who has many quacks in his documentary telling me sugar in large quantities is bad. Everything in large quantities is bad for you,

Lol. Some things are just more bad than others.

Good for you. You might be clued up and I consider myself as such as well, but it doesn't mean I can't gather useful information and motivation from seeing the guy eating 7 sugar cubes instead of a 'healthy' protein bar.

Really, with so many experts on every subject imaginable in these days of Google, thinking you have the answers when 50% of the population disagree with you is rather foolhardy.

Would that not be a separate disorder with different causes?

exactly, like saying sugar is addictive. addiction is generally physical, while its psychological counterpart can apply to anything and originates from the people themselves.

The whole point of the film is that the recommended daily intake set by the government health bodies is actually unhealthy, nothing he does in the film is excessive or in "large quantities" by daily living standards...

The debate if suger is addictive or not is basically moot. We should debate if a highly refined carb is healthy or no. Every person must make his/her own easement but in my mind it can not be good. Humans had no obesity issue until they start consuming sugar and refined carbs.

Wonder if corn syrup is covered under sugar tax?

I picked up some drink in the states and there was a label "MADE WITH REAL SUGAR", couldn't quite figure out why they would be advertising that as if it's a good thing.

American friend told me:
"Corn farmers are subsidized heavily, so everyone grows corn.
There's so much that they started making sugar our of it.
Now everyone is fat and has type 2 diabetes"
