Toolbox for new Huawei HiLink devices (E5186, B315s)

Hi @sajunky I need a little bit of assistance apologies upfront if the questions i ask are stupid as I am a noob when it comes to this.
I have a B315s-936 with firmware 21.313.03.00.372 which based on reading up here is the telkom version.
So i followed your post and downloaded the toolbox opened it using run as administrator, went to "API control" selected /api/net/net-mode-list clicked the "get" button the block below fills up with
<response>
<AccessList>
<Access>00</Access>
<Access>0302</Access>
<Access>03</Access>
<Access>02</Access>
<Access>01</Access>
</AccessList>
<BandList>
<Band>
<Name>GSM900/GSM1800/WCDMA BCVIII/WCDMA BCI</Name>
<Value>2000000400380</Value>
</Band>
</BandList>
<LTEBandList>
<LTEBand>
<Name>LTE BC1/LTE BC3/LTE BC40/LTE BC41</Name>
<Value>18000000005</Value>
</LTEBand>
<LTEBand>
<Name>All bands</Name>
<Value>7ffffffffffffff</Value>
</LTEBand>
</LTEBandList>
</response>
at this point based on your post I am supposed to replace the above with the bottom block on your post on page 1 of this thread however the block write to API is greyed out not allowing me to fill anything in there.

I also tried adjusting the config.xml file in the toolbox folder
I opened the file in notepad and replaced this which is the original file
<LTEBand>
<Name> BC1 LTE / LTE BC3 / BC7 LTE / LTE BC8 / BC20 LTE </ Name >
<Value> 800c5 </ Value>
</ LTEBand>
<LTEBand>
<Name> All Bands </ Name>
<Value> 7ffffffffffffff </ Value>
</ LTEBand>

With this as per your post
<ltebands>
<band>
<name>Automatic</name>
<lteband>7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF</lteband>
</band>
<band>
<name>2100Mhz / B1</name>
<lteband>1</lteband>
</band>
<band>
<name>1800Mhz / B3</name>
<lteband>4</lteband>
</band>
<band>
<name>2300Mhz / B40</name>
<lteband>8000000000</lteband>
</band>
<band>
<name>2500Mhz / B41</name>
<lteband>10000000000</lteband>
</band>
</ltebands>

saving it and re-opening still does not give me the option of selecting 2300mhz the only options i get are

:)

I see multiple issues, but before I go for this, I suggest to download the latest Telkom firmware v21.321, you will be able to force 2300MHz band straight from the Web browser. Symbianize pulled this firmware from Huawei servers. Follow Symbianize links to the latest available firmware and update the file from Web browser (local update). http://www.symbianize.com/showthread.php?t=1428585&highlight=936

Note 1. Wrong place.

/api/net/net-mode-list is informational only, you cannot post. See posts on the first page. The correct place you can force router to use desired frequency is here:

/api/net/net-mode

Note 2. In your second message the first quote shows that you replaced the wrong place. Replace the <ltebands> section, not <LTEBand> section. You will find this section in the latest version of Toolbox v0.9.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your assistance I loaded the new firmware no need to use the toolbox

A link to v0.9 is on the page 11. Verified, is valid. Thanks for a note, made an update the OP.

I am glad problem is solved with new Telkom firmware.

Hi guys. New to this thread, and need some help.

I have the B315s-936 bought from Takealot. I plan to use it with a Telkom uncapped LTE SIM card, so I need the ability to switch between 1800mhz and 2300mhz easily. I can do this with my Telkom branded B315 as it got the OTA update, but the version from Takealot doesn't have this feature, and the update section says it is already up to date.

Here is the status page of the Takealot router:

So tell me is it possible to just download the Telkom version firmware from here http://www.symbianize.com/showthread.php?t=1428585&highlight=936 [B315s-936_UPDATE_21.321.03.00.372.BIN] and then flash it using the "Local Update" function on the router?

Has anyone done this? And is it generally safe? Trying to avoid using the Toolbox coz I want to take the lazy route if it is known to work.

Update will be rejected, as it has a different branded code.

One solution you will find on the same page (post #20002292). Edit CONFIG XML file accoring to this posts, you will be able to change frequency bands in Toolbox (combo selection box on the main tab).

Debranding to the Telkom firmware is the other one. Follow the guide (method A in your case): https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/899034-B315s-936-Debranding-Guide

What band do I need to lock to for better performance? I had previously done this before a firmware upgrade but I've forgotten what changes are required.

Currently my speedtests suck:

EDIT - I found with the new firmware that I no longer need Hauwei Toolbox to do this.

You can now go to "Settings > Dialup > Network Settings" and change your band there.

However it doesn't seem to have helped - in fact its made it worse...

Any advice?

Hi,

Does anyone know if band 38 has been added to firmwares after 21.321.03.00.372 ? Thanks!

Hi Sajunky,

Is it possible to add CA of B7+B8 and B3+B8 to the xml file? And how should I go about to implement the changes ?

Thanks

p/s the router is e5186s-22a variant

Yes, of course. All combinations of supported bands can be combined together.
For B3+B8 it is as follows:
Code:
0x0000000000000004 (band 3) plus
0x0000000000000080 (band 8) equals
0x0000000000000084 (or 0x84)
The same for B7+B8:
Code:
0x0000000000000040 (band 7) plus
0x0000000000000080 (band 8) equals
0x00000000000000C0 (or 0xC0)
You can also combine all of them B3+B7+B8, hex calculator will bring result 0xc4

If you write such number to the API, router will be able to switch between corresponding frequency bands. Channel aggregation is an additional feature. Not all supported bands can be aggregated. In this example router is not able to aggregate channels B3+B8 nor B7+B8. It can switch between, but it will not use both in the same time. For this reason valexi didn't include these combinations, but you can add yourself.

External antenna?

Anyone maybe have a way to choose the tower you connected to. MY router SWOPS between two towers one where I have fantastic speeds 70mbps down and around 10 up with a 18ms ping however the other tower it connects to is terrible Under 6 up and down and 200+ PING it's like a lucky packet every time my router resets. On the good tower I have a solid 4bars with RSRP of - 94dBm and SINR of 21db on the bad tower I have between 1 and 2 bars with RSRP of - 98dBm and SINR of - 3db. I have a b315 connected to poynting lpda0092 antennas. I set these antennas up using my old B593 router and the direction they are correctly facing is the best for my area.
Sometimes I get stuck on the old tower for like a week or two I tried resetting the router changing to 1800mhz or 2300mhz with no luck I just got to wait for when the router decides to connect to the good tower it's frustrating me to the core
