Top 10 android apps for Phones

Started using Dolphin browser HD about a week back. Was using FF, but found it clumsy. Bookmarks weren't so simple. Dolphin has been comparatively easy and so far enjoying using it.

Hi All,

I am unsure between the BB9810 or SGS2 which device to choose. As I am due for an upgrade on my Vodacom Contract.
I need my emails with attachments, web browsing and IM - whatsapp or BBM & facebook. I suppose it comes down to pricing which would be cheaper?

I am using the iPhone 3GS presently & looking for something different - Android or RIM. I have many friends & relatives with BBs so I have an idea of what BB offers- having set up a few

However, I have not seen many people in SA with the SGS2. The SGS2 phone is rated as the best or super smartphone. However,
with the pricing structure, mainly data bundles will it be viable. I noticed Vodacom is giving their clients an free additional
bundles, depending on what you have. I have 250MB per month now I will get 500MB per month-will it be sufficient using the SGS2?

Any recommedations/suggestions..Please...please

Thank you
Mohamed

When life gives you questions...Google has answers...

Check the link should explain all you need, for rooting you need to get the instructions and tools for your specific phone, trust me its a risky process and can brick your phone. Read the instructions VERY VERY carefully and if after that you still not 100% confident, don't risk it, rather then find someone that has and ask them.

Personally i have done it twice and its not that difficult, but can be disastrous if you do the wrong thing.

You have been WARNED....

What is the best free antivirus for androids?

Do androids actually get viruses, i know they exist but seriously where do you pick one up, what do you need to be doing to actually get one?
Do i need to actually be concerned and get myself an AV, or is it simply a placebo?

I also wonder about this, I would love to see a list of Android viruses that one of these programs protects you against.

If you're the kind of person that doesn't read reviews before installing apps and installs apps from places other than an official website/Market, then yes. Otherwise don't bother.

For my info, please. Are you saying that Apps available through Market have all been screened to ensure there is nothing malicious about them?

A couple snuck through recently...they got removed but they did some damage. Google's screening process isn't as rigorous (or draconian) as Apple's. Things do happen.

Main source of Trojans will be pirate sites where you can download Free software, but can also be sneaked into other app markets. If you not in the habit of installing software from other sources and only use Google's Android Market then you dont need an Anti-virus.

Yes there has been some rouge apps found in Google's market but they removed it from both the Market and the users phones that installed the software. They have since then started to screen applications for known bad code.

Personally I install an Antivirus not because of it checking if apps I install are safe but mostly because they also give you options to remote back-up/locate and wipe your phones when stolen or lost

See for example findr service from Avgfree Web site: http://www.avg.com/us-en/antivirus-for-android
Or the Locate feature from Lookout Also a great app is their Plan B that you install after the phone is lost

Both of the above software lets you log into a web browser and remote manage your phone, personally I prefer AVG.

How accurate is the Speedtest mobile app?

Just installed it now. so far so good, but its only been 5 min.
AVG is the most downloaded but i have always hated the destop version and the fact that its a whining little girl if your phones rooted made me just avoid it all together.
Looked at kaspersky but a number of users report it sending sms's to russia.
