Top 10 android apps for Phones

damn, every time I see a cool app it needs root... How does rooting affect software/firmware updates from manufacturers?

I have an optimus black btw.

It doesn't. Its the difference between a normal user class and administrator on your home PC. Its access permissions essentially.

Downloaded PowerAMP Music Player last night.

Was looking for a music player. It's a 15-day trial so I will play around with it until then. Any others recommended - paid or free?

(I did have a look at the one Elimentals recommended although haven't tried it yet, i.e. 3 Cube (Mp3 Player).)

I use PlayerPro but PowerAmp is much better, just need a to wait a bit before i can buy it as FNB screwed up something and all the failed attempts with Google i need to hang bal before they let me buy it.

The useless Dev broke it about 3 weeks back, doesnt bother me as the stock MIUI player works like a dream and even gives me the ability to exclude files from the library.

For anyone who is actually willing to spend money on thier Droid, I can HIGHLY HIGLY recomend the SPB SHell 3D UI. Looks totally amazing and has a lot of customization options for you to enjoy and some splendid widgets to go with it.

I found a "trial" copy, its actually a cracked one that does not actually work for very long but it gives youa good feel of how it will work. Personally i feel the devs should actually release a trial copy as the video is not a good enough taste, i was tempted to buy it after the video but i was 100% sold after the "trial" and even if the crack had worked i still would of given them my $15. Its worth every cent.

Running like adream on my Nexus S, doe sslow down the boot of the phone, but it is afterall a full 3D UI so takes a bit of loading time. Does not slow the phone down at all, if anything i feel its faster and smoother. Whatschgods also pretty happy with it.

Is anyone using JuiceDefender Ultimate? Are you using those added features?? Does it make a difference over the free version?

I bought plus because it added WiFi support, I dont really think you will get more out by scheduling the Brightness and CPU but I could be wrong.

I bought the ultimate but most the extra features need the beta and cynogen mod. I dont want to use a rom that is experimental. :/

I did try and warn you, well not that you going to need beta mod more about the fact that the extra features is not worth it. :)

There was an interesting article about this.....how to introduce a pain/pay point into an app. It has to be features that customers realize they need. If it's just some obscure specialist features most people will never pay.

Colornote (great with lists especially shopping lists)
[-]MyBB app (even though the opening screens don't flip to landscape)[/-] Uninstalled - started hanging and giving 'force close' errors. Installed vanilla tapatalk instead.
[-]News24[/-] Uninstalled - keeps hanging and can't connect to sister sites whereas m.news24.com works fine from a browser.
Sudoku daily (going to buy this one even though the edge touch regions are a bit dodgy. The oke who designed this made it for Sudoku players, not oh-wow effects)
RealCalc scientific calculator

I need my Bluetooth to be setup as discoverable always, is there an app for that?

I dunno if it's been said before, but the official RWC 2011 app is really good, I think. All the results, lots of stats to dig into and a game highlights package that works really well over 3G (although the English commentator completely mangles SA names). It's on the Market.

Unless I missed it, I don't like that you can't add matches to your calendar as reminders. I've just moved over to android (SGS2) from BB and the RWC BB app would add any of the matches directly into your calendar. Nice feature which I can't find on the droid app.

I think thats more a problem for the developer than the OS, maybe you should mail them and ask why they didnt add it? I suspect time restraints or lack of developer know-how.

I had another one that could do this, lost the name, but I uninstalled it in favor for the Official app as the one that could set alarms, UI sucked as well as the live scores was not so live.
