Top 10 android apps for Phones

Just installed it now. so far so good, but its only been 5 min.
AVG is the most downloaded but i have always hated the destop version and the fact that its a whining little girl if your phones rooted made me just avoid it all together.
Looked at kaspersky but a number of users report it sending sms's to russia.
Im hoping that existing eset users will get the android licence for free, or at the very least, a big discount.
I've been using nod32 for the last 4yours, extremely cheap if you renew multiple licences for every 2years. :)

A couple snuck through recently...they got removed but they did some damage. Google's screening process isn't as rigorous (or draconian) as Apple's. Things do happen.

Good to know this. So then I would be happy with their draconian approach if it means my protection is improved :)

Main source of Trojans will be pirate sites where you can download Free software, but can also be sneaked into other app markets. If you not in the habit of installing software from other sources and only use Google's Android Market then you dont need an Anti-virus.

Yes there has been some rouge apps found in Google's market but they removed it from both the Market and the users phones that installed the software. They have since then started to screen applications for known bad code.

Personally I install an Antivirus not because of it checking if apps I install are safe but mostly because they also give you options to remote back-up/locate and wipe your phones when stolen or lost

See for example findr service from Avgfree Web site: http://www.avg.com/us-en/antivirus-for-android
Or the Locate feature from Lookout Also a great app is their Plan B that you install after the phone is lost
Web Site: https://www.mylookout.com/

Both of the above software lets you log into a web browser and remote manage your phone, personally I prefer AVG.

Nice post. I will investigate this. Thank you.

I stopped paying for AV's i just use avast. Its free and it works. Ive bought AV software in the past and find some of the paid ones, panda especially to be too secure. They seem to be designed for the idiot that needs a map to find the on button. I need something more suited for the advanced user and every paid AV i have used has been more the the complete idiot up to the novice.

if it was really worth it i would probably pay for avast as i been using it for years and its never failed me.
For my phone if avast is not an option then it would be between Kaspersky or Eset, i would even consider norton even though i'm not a big fan, however more recently they seem to of been doing things rite.

AVG, Panda or Bitdefender, Bill gates and Donnald Trump combined could not afford to pay me to install that on a complete strangers phone.

I suspect it may be free to existing users, their is a uname and password field for updates. Chances are your current access details may just work.
Not like they expensive anyway. kaspersky was R70 something and its a lifetime license.

For my info, please. Are you saying that Apps available through Market have all been screened to ensure there is nothing malicious about them?

No, but a malicious app is not going to have thousands of great reviews, and wont stay up there for long (hopefully). Hence the "and" in my original sentence :)

i have an htc desire? I am rooted, running insert coin

Then i dont know, Desire stock rom comes with car mode, obviously they took it out of ur custom 1, it was pretty nice too.
I have done plenty of research in custom roms and have seen nothing that's even remotely better than stock so while its not broken i have no intention of fixing it.

wait got it, but think you have to pay to have turn by turn navigation, and you can't change shortcuts

Never tried the shortcuts but turn by turns comes standard with google maps as long as you have version 5.7 or newer.

All Vodacom customers wishing to access Vodacom Apps could do so from 1 September by simply visiting http://vodacom.mobi/apps on their cellphones or from the Apps feature on Vodafone live!

I wonder if MTN is planning something similar. But knowing them, their prices will be outrages.

Sent from my GT-I9100

For AV I use Bitdefender.

I love the Koi live wallpaper ... really nice on my SGS2. The water effects are amazing.

... and EA's Tetris is also now available .... :)
