Couldn't have. The F35 is a single-seat plane, no way to have a pilot and an actor in it. Immediately disqualifies it as a usable plane if they aren't going with CGI, which they avoided completely.

The F14, sr 72 and SU 57 were cgi. I’m guessing the cruise missiles were as well.

You'll notice none of those planes had the main actors in them.

EDIT: Except the dark star, but that was a full model they built.

If it was an actual mission they could use F35’s.
For the movie they could use cgi as they did for 3 other aircraft, or they could film no name pilots like for the SU 57s.

Are you being intentionally obtuse? Or were you born a moron?

For the actual mission they couldn't use F35s for the reasons given:
A) a plot device which was plausible as stated by an actual Top Gun Instructor,
B) The F35 is single seater. How would they film it? Have Miles Teller fly an F35? Or just CGI it which they didn't want to do at all?

Here ya go, maybe this will help. This is Dave Burke - Top Gun Instructor, he's flown the F16, F18, F22, F35. Possibly the only person to have done so (he isn't aware of anyone else who has though of course there could be others).

For the actual mission they could have used F35’s for the SAM sites, bombing the runway and fighting the SU57’s.

Not wanting to use single seaters is not a good reason as they were happy to use cgi for 3 other aircraft.
They also did not need to use main actors for the F35.

The reason given in the film is that, due to the GPS blocking, and the fact the F35 has GPS targeting weapons, it wasn't feasible. Sure, in the real world there'd probably be solutions to that. But it's a movie. Did you catch that part? I don't think you did.

They didn't show any of the main characters in the other aircraft did they? No, because they wanted to film it, not CGI it. Not a hard concept to understand.

Also, if they didn't put the main actors in the F35, then who flies the F35? And then, why have it?

They use the F18 for the laser designator and the F35 for the rest.

What is the hard part for you to understand?

They could have. If they were only going to film it from the outside. But then we don't get the amazing visuals we go. For that we need to go in the plane with the actor. Personally, I don't want to see two guys sharing a seat in an F35, so I'm not sure how they film that and keep the excitement of the film.

So your next argument is they can’t use cgi.
But they used cgi for 3 other aircraft. So that is not an argument.
You know like the f14 scene. Which was you know… exciting…
And the sr72. Which was…. You know…. Exciting.
And the su 57’s were cgi… and didn’t use main actors… but it was …. You know… exciting…

You really are dense. You realise they're making a movie? A movie involves actors. It's literally impossible to get an actor filmed in an F35 that is flying. So how do they do it? They cannot.

They can use CGI, but they didn't want to. The F14 they did because there are no airborne F14s in the US. But the rest was filmed practically because that's how they chose to film it. The Darkstar was a physical model, so interior was shot in that, with CGI for exterior, screens etc.

The enemy aircraft don't contain any actors. They contain helmets and partial faces. So doing them in CGI doesn't matter.

You're looking at what is physically possible but missing the point that this is a movie, a love-letter to aviation, and so was shot practically where possible. There's no way to do that with an F35, hence them not using it.

Well your latest argument is that it’s impossible to show a pilot in a f35.
And for some reason you want it to be a”main” actor.

You are ok with cgi in 3 aircraft, but for some weird reason they can’t use cgi to show a pilot, “main” or not in an f35.
