Can anybody tell me, what is the top speed I can get out of my 384/128k line? And also separately, what upload speed and what download speed? Reason I ask, I got a log from my ISP, on my request, and what I get is the following speeds per hour:

h1. 159.91478
h2. 314.55018
h3. 227.06904
h4. 662.47285
h5. 444.5702
h6. 450.23788
h7. 215.04234
h8. 79.95366

By my uninformed calculations, if I upload and download full speed, my total usage per hour cannot be more than 201.6 MB/h.

Any info/tips/name callings/rotten tomatoes/pats on the back?

I've got a pretty clean 384 line and get the following: 39.5 downstream, 14 upstream. I have my peaks of 41 but not too often.
I usually get 137-140MB/h down and up to 49MB/h upstream.

I've had reports on my log showing me download 260MB in an hour... how? I can only do 137MB...

Yes, but 662Mbytes? That is more than 3 times my lines possible top speed~!
And also, my Netmeter says this:
Date Download Upload
04/10/2008 626528965 121336850

And that was for the complete day, not just those hours. The stuff I know I downl;oaded comes to 390Mbytes, and I had my torrents slowly trying to fight for bandwidth.

If you on a 384 line then there is NO WAY you can download at speeds greater than 48KB/s... And that's when you are sitting inside the exchange...
It is a physical limitation. No way around it.

If that's the printout of the speed stats, then there's something funny going on...

I might be wrong but as far as I know all lines are the same, Telkom just throttles your speed down to what you are paying for. Perhaps the tech guy made a little booboo with your setup!

My line speed on my router reads:
Upstream: 128 kbps
Downstream: 384 kbps

So my router is picking the line up at that speed. My setup is pretty much Bridge Mode, My local only has not been purchased yet this month, so only my international is working, so 1 connection. Netmeter says 597.50458 MB for the relevant day. Relevant day, not just those 8 hours.

*sigh*

My ISP says:

"If you can help me find an error, there is a 30Gig reward"

I am up for it:-)

I also use Netmeter and what i've noticed is that all bandwidth also goes via my antivirus, NOD32. So if my true downloads for an hour will be eg 200mb, netmeter would list it as 400mb.

eg

NOD32 400mb
Firefox 80mb
Utorrent 140mb
AltBinz 160mb
Winamp 20mb

If you have a look at your process usage what is netmeter giving you?
