Just got an email from an authorized odm installer.Apparently they had a meeting with ODM today.

1 The toptv box will retail for R700,incl dish and installation.
2 The box is refundable,if you cancel you'll get a pro rata refund.
3 The smart card, decoder and your cellno are married together...and the service can only be activated by an approved installer.(sorry avr_rules:))
4 A nice feature...the installer's commision is calculated based on a rating given by you.

Here's the costs for channel bolts.(7 levels)

1 Basic = R99

For R159 you can choose:
2 Basic + kids & music
3 Basic + sport
4 Basic + doccies
5 Basic + movies

For R199 you can choose:
6 Basic + any 2 of above (kids/sport/docs/movies)

7 Premium = R249 all inclusive.

They will also subsidized 100% of communial systems to be upgraded to include toptv, the subscriber wiill then only need a stb.

Diskless DVR (record to usb) will be activated year end via a firmware upgrade.

Well your cell phone has nothing to do with the encryption - only a way to track you down

Otherwise you would have to have the cell phone connected to to box

Do we get discount for having done the installation ourselves?

sob sob - all I want is a box plus card .... where and when?

Eh,this part was for you...and sommer answers your question.

The activater needs to be in an approved database.Of course you can bribe an installer but you won't save.Sell the damn dish for R200-R250.

Ads should start from next week.Service begins 1 May.

The activator needs to be in an approved database.

I dont have a problem with who ever activates it - I just want the box plus card.

I'm sure Space will sell over the counter ---

What if they just move your DSTV dish - ? so there needs to be some other pricing also.

Anyone know when stock arrives - please give me a holla

The idea of a firmware upgrade for DVR is really attractive. Why fork out R2000 for one with DSTV, that is for people who have no bought into HD TV yet .. it seems pointless. But this way I feel is better. Not a bad price for installation and box!

I'm interested in this but totally lost to what exactly and where this company is?

Hang on. So if I move into a house that already has the dish in the right place, I still need an installer to activate the service for me? Epic fail.

What are your options if you have 2 or more TV's? Dualview??

@ Nuro - my point exactly - there must be room to negotiate - otherwise 1 fixed price means cross-subsidisng other installations - and you won't get that past me.

@rph72 - this will be for single point installation i.e. to 1 TV -- this cannot connect to Dualview etc - although you could use another video input into the same TV

It's all still early days...so this will be cleared up asap

Why is it taking ODM so long to post cost, packages and content options on their website? :(

They did keep repeating the fact that you can use your existing dstv dish so there might just be another option.

You don't pay the installer, they are paid directly by ODM...between R400-R500 based on how you rated him.

gosh, I'd LOVE to know what sport licensing they'll have

They have not officially announced the distributors, but I'm pretty sure they will be one of them.

Will there be any rugby on there sport programming? Would go for this if they show Super 14 and Springbok rugby, even if it is delayed live. Late rugby is better then no rugby.:D
