The packages are ok But I I would be awesome if they come introduce a package with;

8 Basic + Doccies + Movies + Music

Time will tell... but most broadcasters do loads of reruns... it is not unique to DSTV.

fair point, if you guys wanna do yourselves the favour and check out ABC, NBC or CBS schedule, they only have like new programmes after six, sometimes they repeat a whole season back to back over the weekend...

Eish man all this talk of top TV is just making me more anxious...........can I not pre-book a installation?

Making television is expensive American national networks only produce about 20 hours (at the most) of new scripted television a week and only for 9 months in a year. Obviously cable channels produce far less. In terms of English programming there isn't a huge amount of original content out there (quality content not the junk you find on youtube). Repeats are a natural part of the process and Top TV will have the same level of repeats as DSTV they can't help it if you don't have a life and choose to sit in front of the television for 16 hours a day. Read a book, play a game, there's more to life than watching television 24/7. Finally let me save you the bother - Top TV will offer nothing dstv does not already offer - it's a low cost service and there will be many repeats, most channels will broadcast junk, and HD and PVR might be a long way away. If you're expecting something comparable to DSTV in any way you're in for a huge disappointment.

I don't think anyone who is waiting to join TopTV has an issue with the fact that it will not be getting the same as DSTV. The whole idea of TopTV is for the OTHER 45million South Africans to have something better than SABC and E-TV with their no-brainer quiz shows.

The couple of thousand people who pay R600/month for sport and HD TV is not part of ODM's target market me finks.....

Nearly every thread on toptv on Mybb has dozens of people who keep stating that this will be so much better than dstv and they won't have repeats, and they'll offer hd in a 16:9 aspect ratio and pvr will be here soon when none of this will happen. It will be a miracle if Top tv is still around in five years time. I don't support multichoice or anything (I certainly can't afford dstv) but expectations are being raised so high on these forums the backlash after launch is inevitable.
Furthermore I can't see who the target market really is because Top TV doesn't offer very much - sports fans will look elsewhere, there isn't much interesting for drama series fans like me, and their movie channels don't seem especially exciting either. Perhaps when they actually lanuch they will surprise us with the schedules of top tv and top movies, etc but from what I learnt about them I'm not holding my breath.

It sounds more like you trying to convince yourself.

1 Nowhere in any odm thread was it posted what you claimed (except the pvr part, which is true)...please provide links for your ridiculous claims.
2 It is common knowledge they will have mostly post dstv content plus alternative content. You do know many people download their series and movies anyway...dstv or not.
3 Toptv is in the unique situation to supply services like iTV,DVR,VOD,PPV anytime with just a over the air upgrade. They come in modules which just be added as needed.Dstv uses normal dvb epg,you can do shyte with it.

Its not what you start with, its what your technology is capable of,once they had the numbers, that dstv should be afraid of.

BTW:Next year SES Astra,a senior partner in Odm and strategic in the distribution of the ODM signal, will launch a new sat,Astra 4b.It will have 24 African transponders.ODM Africa will be launched on it.

The number will come, whether you think its garbage or not.

I don't think he said they will never be as good, or better. He was just saying that they won't be as good at launch and probably for a long time after... and people are thinking they will be awesome. They are setting themselves up to be disappointed when TopTV launches and I'll be waiting with the popcorn for the TopTV complaint threads.

Of course they won't be as good at launch. Why we even discuss it is beyond me.

Dstv started in 1995 with 17 channels.
