TopTV - The total costs

What they want to do is standardize the dish to be 90cm thus subsidized R700 decoder comes with installation. Basically you will buy decoder at the retail (only for now) and your info will be loaded on the spot, then an installer will be despatched to contact you for installation, when done the installer will sms back to Top TV that installation is done and you will automatically get your service with sms to rate installer on work done.

They will use SABC for Soccer World Cup. Chased away Free2view from satellite because Sirius is shareholder and all uplinks will be done in Munich, Germany

What aspect ratio will the broadcasts be in?

That is question number 1 for me.

Not that it worries me (i still have an old square TV), but this is an interesting question. I cant see people with R10 000 or for that matter R30 000's worth of Flat Screen TV's being satisfied with a square picture.

Thats precisely the boat I'm in. I have a LCD and we've only JUST started to get traction out of MC in terms of going WS on their SD broadcasts. I don't see the point in starting the fight ALL over again with a new company.

I was really surprised when saw the first print adverts for top tv, it looks like it could be quite worthwhile. I doubt I'll every drop DSTV, I need my sport, but if top tv get some good programing it could be worthwhile. At 99 per month, I think that many more South Africans will switch to pay tv.

Where can I see their website and who can I call to get myself this service...I wants it BAAAAD

Were there any print media ad's for TopTV today - Sunday?

Please post pics

I saw it in a TV plus magazine, don't laugh. I was at my grandmothers house, and she asked me to look at this add for cheap pay tv.

gosh, I'd LOVE to know what sport licensing they'll have

They have NO licensing for the top sports (excuse the pun) like Super 14, Springboks, cricket, soccer or probably even for wc2010, except via the SABC channels they show. From last I heard they have ONE sport channel and were planning to show the more off beat sports like fencing or whatever.. that is the complete show stopper for me. Sport is the only reason why I have satellite because everything else you can stream or d/l off the interwebz.

The up side to all of this is that I like their package structure a lot and if they can give DSTV enough of a go (without having proper sport channels or HD) then maybe DSTV can also go for this type of model of "Basic + ____". The current DSTV packages other than premium all suck, but I would love to pay for only a basic + sport package. Sky in the UK and other sat providers have a similar model which seems to be really popular these days. Hope DSTV can do the same.

Hey guyz

Will they hv da finacial muscle to bid 4 broadcast rights of major sports in sa starting with dat of the psl next year?

Funny! But didn't you know that is the language of the future? Soon you be able to say to your boss: LOL ... WTF ... ROFL etc etc. :)

I will commit genocide if that becomes the bloody language of the future... Its for inbreds and stupid people. These wretches are all taught how to use the English language correctly ffs.
