Total Grid collaps

Nothing ever happened in terms of a grid collapse, if I wake with no power I would assume it's just that, until I learn there was a national grid collapse and the grid was jumpstarted while I was sleeping.
YOUR assumptions do not trump facts.

The grid collapsed.
When people woke up, there were still power issues.
So it was not "like nothing happened".

How long do you think we will have cell phone reception?

Would fiber still work?

Would you be able to bank if any of the above worked?

Would water stop?

Would sewerage stop?

Water will definitely stop. Our reservoir does not pump during loadshedding and they are struggling to maintain our level above 60% after the Rand-Water issues in April.

How exactly is green power/private power fed into the Eskom grid, direction of AC flow, and how is it protected against escom instability when it comes, can it wipe out a private home contribution to the grid if things go south-?

Everything fscked in a day. You would still be able to bank if you went into the branch but you would be told "the system is offline".

Do you ever think Eskom or ANC will admit a grid collapse. It might happen but at the same time it won’t happen...

Meanwhile companies are paying to have a 'plan' drawn up in case of a grid collapse.

Work from the office - no.
Work from home - no.
Work at all - no.

It will be like the first two weeks of Covid lockdown - just without electricity, water, sewage, internet, deliveries, television, and all the things that kept us sane.

As long as the batteries last in the tower. Maybe 4-6hrs?

Would fiber still work?

It would die when those batteries or generators ran out of fuel. So maybe a few hours longer.

Would you be able to bank if any of the above worked?

It would depend on who provided the connectivity to the bank and the payment processor and merchant. You'd probably not be able to bank within some hours.
Has SA's systems even been tested for this?

Would water stop?

Yes. Pumps need fuel or electricity to pump.

Would sewerage stop?

Yes ultimately. Sewerage is pumped too. And it's processed.

No armed response. No police (haha), no healthcare. No meds. Totally back to stone age.

Those with gardens could at least pee and defecate in their gardens.

It would be a disaster. Many people would die. Because with no water provision, people would drink unsafe water. And if someone claims the army would deliver water, how big is this army, how many water tankers do they have and where would they source fuel and water for these tankers?

Which branches would be open though? Employees would run home or to fetch their kids at school or do food/water/get meds before the 2-3 weeks of fokol would follow.

Admit what? No power. How do you hide that?

As of late there are many who are counter to the view that South Africa is a failed state, but if they are to make argument then they need to recognise that the ANC has failed the state.

I just woke up, had a dream the power is back with all dogs in street barking as one person went by excercising doef doef doef.....Underground runner when street lights are on..New trend-?

I recently heard over radio municipal official raised complaint about inverters connected to grid after each mini collapse called laodshedding, in the sense that why should they worry about geysers while the new kid on the block consumes huge amounts of power as they charge batteries........So how far will all this bull keep going for the taxpayer-?
