What settings should I use to connect my dell inspiron 5558 laptop to my tp link EX511 wifi router ?

I can get everything else to work by using WPA2-AES (WPA2-Personal) wireless security, except the Dell laptop. This has the latest wifi drivers available 18.33.17.1

Seems like a good router on paper but I am struggling to connect some older equipment.

I'm not going to toss a laptop with a 1TB SSD and 20GB RAM

Replace the wireless card in it.

Buy one of these: https://www.geewiz.co.za/lntel-acce...4gbps-245ghz-160mhz-bluetooth-50-8080mhz.html
Its a drop-in replacement and have the Intel AX200 chipset on it which supports WiFi 6 like your router so you will get better wifi performance and far less hassles.

According to the interwebs - this Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop is a circa 2015 model, and as such - only has (Wi-Fi 5) 802.11ac connectivity...

This means that it can only connect to a 5GHz (Wi-Fi 5 - 802.11ac) network, and will NOT have ANY compatibility for older wi-fi routers that only used the 2.4GHz (Wi-Fi 3 - 802.11g) standard...

The Dell Inspiron 15 5558 is a 15.6-inch budget-to-midrange laptop originally released by Dell featuring 4th and 5th Generation Intel Core processors. [1]

    • Storage: 2.5-inch SATA slot supporting traditional mechanical hard drives (HDD up to 1TB) or solid-state drives (SSD). [1, 2, 3]
    • Display: 15.6-inch screen available in HD (1366 x 768) TN or Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS options (touch and non-touch variants). [1, 2, 3]

The router he has is a WiFi 6 router (aka 802.11ax). His laptop might only support 802.11ac (aka Wifi 5) but it would happily connect to a 2.4GHz only SSID. because the wifi card in that laptop is dual-band.

I can see the network and connect to it now after some more fiddling, but still stuck with No Internet error.

Connected on 802.11 bgn channel 6 , but no throughput.

Have flushed DNS

Using Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I know the specs, I know it's not new, but I refuse to throw out something that still works perfectly in every other way.

Have no need for Windows 11.
