So mother nature decided to its time for me to get a new ADSL router. I had an Asus DSL N-14U which was decent so replacing it with another Asus is an option.

I am however thinking of getting a dual band router (running streaming devices on AC) and the TP-Link Archer D50 looks like a decent option. I am however wary of TP-Link. I had a TL-MR3420 which was a steaming pile of cow excrement.

What are your thoughts on TP-Link? Any thoughts on the specific router?

I have the Archer D50 and it is an absolute beast. Wifi range is excellent. 5.8ghz band is a major plus for me, especially when streaming HD. Have not had a single issue with this router since day one.

Had the C7, which mother nature took from me a month or two back ..... replaced with the D7

Had no problems with them ..... prior to that I had the Netgear DGN2200.

All three cost me in the region of R1500.

All I been using for the last 7 years or so. Very good routers and very competitive prices. Could be a little more robust when it comes to lightning damage but then again, when it is your time it is your time...

Have a D2 as well as a D9, solid routers. D9 is the current king. D50 going for R1100 inc vat from Uniterm Direct. Good price. Maybe hit @kernel up for mybroadband discount. Sure he could do it for around R900 all in...

sell me one :D

Yeah, they surplus to my needs, until the next storm that is. I have 4 or 5 fully functional TP-Link's, ranging from a 8950 to a C2, lying around for just in case... :)
Really need a good TP link router. I think they are pretty good. Saw a friends one, and the wifi range was pretty awesome, considering his walls are rock solid.

Pm me if you ever decide to let one go to a good home

Sure!! :)

Go for it - those high end TP link routers are beasts! I'm sorry i didnt buy one, bought the cheaper TP link which is fine, but have to reboot it every morning - on our wireless link, i have a cheapo tplnk access point in the front on the house - also have to keep rebooting it daily in order for it to work

Jouda - I feel your pain.
Mother Nature did the same to me two days ago. It seems she has a particular dislike to Netgear routers

What are you planning to get?

I kinda feel its not worth getting one of these R2K+ routers.

Another question, does these lightning protectors really work?

This last strike popped my Ellies Surge Protector, my router, and the network card on my Media Server.
Media Server is getting a Wireless Network Card - lets see her do that again.

Yes, if it doesnt, then go back to the store that sold it to you, and tell them to refund you the money of the equipment it was supposed to protect.

I am running the Archer D9 and I have never had a single issue with it except that one time when there was a storm that took out half the house... so I am actually on my 2nd D9 but I have never had a days issue with it. Used to have a Netgear DGND3700v2 which was also taken by mother nature. The old TP-Link interface was horrific but the new interface is such a breeze. There are a few things I would love in the Advanced Features that are not there but I can control quite a bit.

Only gripe I have is that you just cannot grip the bottom of the antenna's properly to tighten them fully so sometimes if they are moved in the wrong direction by a wayward hand or box etc. they tend to unscrew. Eventually attacked them with a pliers and now all is happy :D
